My DVDs live in a closed cabinet in my new apartment, and I kind of forgot about them. After watching Saved on Tuesday though, I decided today to go back and watch some of my old favourites. I started with Love Actually which is my favourite Christmas movie ever, even though it totally makes me cry. Emma Thompson's and Laura Linney's storylines especially. My fave is Andrew Lincoln and Keira Knightly, though I know it squicks some people.

I moved on to 10 Things I Hate About You, which I hadn't watched since Heath's death. It was making me a little bit sad, and I cuddled up under my duvet, and managed to sleep through the final third of it. (I've seen it probably 15 or more times, so it's not like I was confused when I woke up at the end.)

After that I watched Parenthood, which I bought for 99 pence when I was in England last summer. I hadn't seen it in YEARS. Everyone playing over 25 in it looked about 15-20 years older than they purported to be. It was kind of weirding me out. Keanu was SO SO young and pretty.

Finally, I watched Drop Dead Gorgeous. Amy Adams! I totally had no idea she was in that. Alison Janney continues to be utterly awesome. In that and 10 things. And everything else she does. Also, I have a total crush on Kirsten Dunst even though she's jail bait in that movie.

Tomorrow I need to pack my laundry to go home to mom and dad's. And tomorrow night I am going to a pot luck that I was invited to by people I've met once, at the house of someone I've never met at all. I'm nervous as hell. But there will be gainfully employed, and hopefully (at least a few) single lesbians there. *prepares to dip toe into dating waters again*

I finished off my bottle of Bailey's tonight. And now I'm feeling kind of sick. :(

There has been a lot of sad and unhappy around today, and I wanted to post about good things.

  • first meeting of my new writers' group went amazingly well, and I found out two new things about one of my characters
  • had lunch with my BFF and her two kids at Pier 39, and it was WONDERFUL to see her. Haven't seen her since November, which is too damn long. We've been friends for twenty-nine years. And that's something really powerful.
  • I got chatting with a totally adorable man and his (probably) foster son on the trolley on the way home, and it was one of those conversations that makes you feel alive and good to be that way.
  • Mom found the housewarming card she sent me last year when she was helping me pack my old apartment, spirited it off, added little 'again's and 'still's to it and mailed it to me in my new place, making me grin.
  • Definitely, Maybe is just as wonderful as I'd hoped it would be, and Abigail Breslin is just cuter than a cute thing. (and Isla Fisher is still smokin' hot)
  • Butterfinger Blast ice cream.
  • I finally posted fic!!! It feels like forever ago that I last did that.
  • My f'list is filled with gorgeous, talented, generous and wonderful people.

I really must stop watching films after reading Jsquared AUs for them. No matter how good the movie, I am always desperately disappointed by a) the lack of Jared and Jensen and b) the lack of slash. Though I have to say, Audrey Hepburn is about as good a consolation as I could ask for. Except she looks about 30 and is supposed to be 20 and it confused me at first. Watching it did make me awe even more at [livejournal.com profile] balefully's fic though. It's almost exactly the same except for how she made it work perfectly with the CW crew and fit into modern times and have lots of awesome slash. *fangirls her*

Do you ever have that thing where you're watching an old movie that you last saw years ago and you're stunned to find it filled with actors you've come to know well from other things?

Die Hard 2 is today's selection. William Sadler (who I know best from Roswell) is in it. Stark bollocks naked. And holy hell is he ripped. If he has 5% body fat I'd be surprised. Then he puts his clothes back on and just looks like a normal guy again.

Next up was Robert Patrick, though he only just walked past. Then Dennis Franz as the airport police Captain. We also have John Leguizamo.

Bruce Willis should not have hair. It looks strangely wrong. I'm too used to him with his bald/shaved head. Either way he's not my type, but I do understand the attraction.

eta: omg there is so much swearing in this movie! Clearly they weren't trying for a PG rating.

So, I have a car this week. There are things to do, but it's kind of a crappy day, and I don't have a car that often, and I kind of feel like going to the movies. Since I'm going on my ownsome, I want help choosing. WHAT SHOULD I SEE???

[Poll #1181495]

ETA so Iron Man won, and not just cos I missed Sarah Marshall's start time obsessively refreshing the poll results when I decided I needed some lunch.

Where's the Tina love, people? ;)

Um, how come no one told me that At World's End is a musical? I'm only six minutes in, but half of that has been singing.

EVERYONE SHOULD SEE THIS MOVIE.

there is more and it's not really spoilery except for cast )
I love this film more than is possibly decent. I want to see it again. Now would be good. Tomorrow would also be acceptable. I kind of want to see it every day for the rest of my life, though I expect I would get tired of it eventually.

Cliffhanger is a bloody awful film. I know this, sadly, not only because I'm watching it now, but because I've seen it twice already.
though I am not sure why you'd care, there will be spoilers, so cutting )
And in MUCH better news, thanks to the ever fabulous [livejournal.com profile] vanillafluffy, Go watch this on youtube. Hilarious John Winchester vid.

(or not) It pretty much does exactly what it says on the tin.

Transformers is deeply cheesy, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Basically, if a film has stunts, bombs and tits, I'm happy. And this has those in spades. I laughed lots, and clapped quietly when various actors showed up, and generally had a blast. I laughed a couple times AT the film rather than with it, but hey. The special effects were AMAZING. And the guy who came in and sat down next to me just after it started smelled so strongly of pot I swear i got a contact high just from the odor.

Most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life, the way I feel when I'm with you.

And it wasn't even that Jennifer Grey couldn't sell it. It's just ridiculous. (we won't talk about how she was looking 30 and playing 18)

I love Dirty Dancing It's cheesy and dated despite being a period piece, and it's silly, but it has something. That line has always made me cringe though.
Mood:: 'headache' headache
