Cliffhanger is a bloody awful film. I know this, sadly, not only because I'm watching it now, but because I've seen it twice already.
John Lithgow is awesome. But he's much more awesome when not playing some bizarrely nebulous Euro-baddie.
Janine Turner, who was Maggie in Northern Exposure and is the reason for watching this film, does not sell straight very well. Though I would be more willing to buy it if she weren't supposed to be in love with (are you fucking kidding me?) Sylvester Stallone. I'm willing to buy him as an action hero, but a romantic lead? Not remotely. And she's playing a pilot and mountain rescue worker but she's the squeeling-est bird imaginable. It's offensive and I'm also not buying it.
The women, elder types and persons of colour are all treated as canon fodder, in a remarkably offensive manner. I'd completely forgotten that in the ten years since I've seen this.
God. This really is awful.
And in MUCH better news, thanks to the ever fabulous

But that video... *glee*
It's one of the best things I've run across on YouTube!

that video did make me so happy! I try to never go to youtube on my own, after a period when I would end up spending five hours at a stretch there, so now I only go on recs. And what a great rec that was!

I'm watching Bye Bye Birdie in all it's retro fabulousness. Ann Margret, Janet Leigh, the wonderful Paul Lynde. The big loud Broadway songs. What's not to love! :-D
I will check out the youtube goodness when I'm back on ADSL.

I'm pretty sure that I will be able to resist from here on out though. Because damn it only gets worse.

Also, yes, even Janine Turner cannot come close to saving Cliffhanger. Just watch old NE eps instead. *nods seriously*

It totally makes me laugh every time. Um, not that I've watched in four or five times in the last twelve hours...
Sadly, old NE episodes don't seem to present themselves on my TV nearly so often as Cliffhanger. Ah, NE. Dad taped every episode diligently for me the first year i was in England and I watched them all in two days.
