When I saw Real Steel when it came out, I kept thinking, blue_soaring needs to see this so she can write me Max/Atom fic. SHE FINALLY SAW IT. and because she's great (and kind of easy when it comes to xeno prompts *g*) she wrote me the fic of my heaaaaaaaart.

More glitter, more eyeliner, more nail polish, more sequins, more feathers, more corsets, more pointy bras, more bubbles, more pianos on fire. But more than that, more vision, more passion, more pride, more sparkle, more creative flair, more hard work. More breaking the mold, more claiming your identity, more not apologizing for who you are, more standing tall, more standing proud, more bringing change, more being change, more keeping your head held high and saying, "World, here I am."

First:

If you can get yourself to any of these cities, you really really must go and see La Mission. It's currently playing in the SF area, the LA area, and NYC, and it will be playing in Dallas and San Antonio, and San Diego at the end of the month. It's absolutely in my top five of best movies I've ever seen, and it needs to get wider distribution.

It's a stunningly beautiful love letter to the city of San Francisco, and to the Mission District--La Mission--and even my mother, who never notices such things, was gushing about the cinematography as we were leaving the theater. But more than that it is a movie about people who are proud to be who they are. Proud to be a strong woman who owns her decisions, has agency and opinions, and who shares them. It's about pride in culture, in history, in family. Queer pride. Pride that goes before a fall. Pride that picks you up again. Pride that gets you killed. Pride that makes you strong. It's a Latino movie; it's a queer movie; it's a men's movie; it's a women's movie. It's a movie about how important family is, and how important community is. It's a movie about low riders and a love of cars. It's breathtaking.

I saw it in a packed 700-person theater and it was the most diverse crowd I've ever seen. Mostly you get your "date-movie" crowd, or your "action-movie" crowd or your "queer-cinema" crowd or your hipster-indie crowd. But everyone was here. All ages (late teen and up; they didn't hold back on the swearing and it's definitely R rated), all races, all points on the sexuality and gender spectrum, and a broad class spectrum. And listening to the conversations going on as people exited the theater, and looking at the people asking questions and making comments when a couple of the actors and the director spoke afterward, everyone in the theater found something that spoke to them, that they could look at and say, "This is my life."

This post by weesta is a wonderful look at Devil's Trap and the latest SPN episode (so spoilers for that), and how the people making this show do such a great job visually and thematically. And how even when they seem to be circling around the same issues, there are levels. It filled me with EVEN MORE love of Show. You should check it out. :D :D

If you have seen the new Dr. Who and you like amazing fic, you must read this by paperclipbitch. I'm only half done, and I had to interrupt my reading to rec it because that is how gleeful it is making me. She's amazing always, but I'm pretty sure she was born to write Amy Pond POV fic.

Today I have found much to delight me on the internetz, and so I thought I should share some of it.

1. dauntdraws drew me more Sam and Dean ponies!!! I am very excited about this for many reasons. Not least because they are for MEEEEEEEEEEE and that is always fun :D But also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE SPN Ponies. Love them. And these ones make me do that thing where you grin so hard your shoulders go up around your ears and your head tilts and your neck and nose scrunch up and you look ridiculous, but you don't care because you are happy and something is SOCUTEOMG.

2. ash48 and maichan808 finished their amazing new vid and it really is AMAZING. We have some RIDICULOUSLY talented people in the SPN fandom.

3. The teamcockbert community. IDEK. It's hilarious, and kind of jaw-dropping in that way that Adam Lambert manages so effortlessly. Mostly this post has been getting my attention. It's just a massive huge post that lists a whole bunch of guys one might pair Adam with, with a picture and then information about his occupation and whether or not he's actually met Adam in the flesh as it were. I just spent the last hour looking through it. In the George Clooney entry there is a link to fic, and that is awesome, too. Also awesome, this post which has pictures of men in kilts and some kilt sex fic. om nom nom. I'm going to guess that pretty much everyone on my flist who might care that this comm exists already knows that this comm exists, but just in case...

4. Sugar bunnies! Thank you, my lovelies! ♥♥

So that Johnny Weir/Adam Lambert fanfic that I've been dying to read? Exists. In sexy, snarky, deliciousness. Which is not to say that there should only be one such fic. But it's a start. A Miracle Off Ice, or, How John G. Weir Got His Groove Back by randomeliza. explicit, 3,000 words.

Also? Johnny landing a lovely throw triple axle. Nice :D

I'm trying not to giggle as I hear my mom in the other room watching Johnny youtube vids. She's adorably smitten. Though possibly in a different way to her crush on Shaun White.

Do you have one of those fics that you read over and over and over again, and can never get enough of? The voices, the character dynamics, the language and rhythm, the way it blends humour and hotlikefire? The whatever your own personal thing is. Or maybe it just caught you in that one perfect moment, grabbed you by the heart or the panties and wouldn't let go. Whatever it is for you, I have There Ain't No Snappy Popcultural Reference For This One by drvsilla.

Some time ago, there was one of those tell-me-what-you'd-have-me-write memes, or Dru just did it, or whatever, and, of course, I asked for more of it. But, really, I wasn't sure how she would do it. I mean. It's Sam/Dean/cute!Dean Forrester. The Winchesters don't exactly live a life where re-visiting old flings works out particularly well, adding a third person to my OTP is a dodgy proposition at best, and how do you catch lightning twice?

BUT OMG, DRU IS CLEARLY SMARTER AND BETTER THAN ME.

Because just this morning, I woke up to There's The Rare Occasion I Would Do It All Over Again. WHICH IS EVEN THE PERFECT TITLE.

Season one Sam and Dean. Gorgeous, emo cute!Dean. Dean Winchester on that beautiful knife-edge between cocky and unsure that he does so well. Things that had me grinning so wide it hurt, and ZOMG sex like burning. *flails wildly*

Today is a good day. I'm telling you. Go. Read. Tell her how amazing she is, because I totally ran out of words before I could convey it all.

Totally without trying, or even knowing I wanted it, I found two delightful RDJ RPS fics in the last two days.

Cute ones are usually gay by paperclipbitch, which is a hilarious, adorable, and OMGSOHOT Robert/Jude drunk!fic. ~5500 words, NC-17 rating. I'm pretty sure that a wasted out of his head Jude torn between OMGWANT and OMGBADIDEA is my favorite Jude.

Not Quite Ready for Primetime by ponderosa121 over at IJ (also posted here at her dreamwidth, ponderosa, if you prefer). It is delicious RDJ/Kiefer Sutherland Bratpack fic, with bonus voyeur Billy Zane. ~1200 words, NC-17 rating. Just picturing Lost Boys-era Kiefer and Less Than Zero-era Robert riding around in a car and living together is hot enough. Add in the delicious porn? hellz yeah.

Because I have less than zero talent for any kind of visual art (and partly because as far as I know, House is not exactly an art-heavy fandom and it was my first), my fannish interests have leaned towards the words end of things. But in the last year or so I have discovered the utter awesome and amazingness that is fanart.

I am happy about this for many reasons, not least that I have met several cool people I might not have met otherwise, but I also love that it makes me more likely to stumble across the total fabulosity that is fic/art collaborations. I LOVE fic/art collaborations. There have been a few lately in the Holmes/Watson fandom that I thought I would share in case you haven't seen them. (also, I keep seeing "give me recs, I've just seen Sherlock Holmes" posts on my flist)
