So I retweeted this video on twitter this morning, because BABY BAT:

and it's amazing and adorable and a little bit tragic, because ORPHANED BABY BAT. WHO ROCKS HIMSELF AFTER HE'S BEEN FED.

AND THEN THIS HAPPENED. proof fangirls are great )

MCR!BATS. ORPHANED!BB!FRANK!BAT. I am beyond enchanted. Who knew that a video of a tiny bat baby could be improved upon? I DID NOT KNOW THIS. BUT NOW I DO. And now you do, too. :D

I NEED MY FANGIRL COMMUNE NOW. JS.

One of my favourite parts of Wincon every year is group writing badfic. It happened pretty much totally by accident this year, and involved a lot more alcohol than previous years' efforts, but it was still fun in the end, even though I had no idea what was happening at first. All the alcohol and confusion led to insane but ridiculous results. I'm pretty sure the whole thing is beyond random and into incomprehensible to anyone else, but [livejournal.com profile] lazy_daze has posted it here if you want to take a look :D

I am still missing all the fangirls from around the world like crazy, and cursing my inability to get a job at an airline when I was job hunting last year. Stupid airlines. I would be AWESOME at using my free flights to visit all the fangirls ever serving drinks and keeping people calm.

Oh Wincon, why can't you last all year????

ALSO. and totally changing the subject. I really want to marry this woman. She is hot and clearly awesome.

Last night I realized that with [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c, [livejournal.com profile] missyjack, [livejournal.com profile] drvsilla, [livejournal.com profile] grayscaled, and [livejournal.com profile] gekizetsu not here, I am the only one of the badfic idol team I've written with every year. I am really sad about this. But I'm raising a glass to all you girls. ♥♥

As many of you already know, [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c is an amazing vidder (as well as just being generally amazing). She's made a White Nights vid. Like the movie with Gregory Hines and Mikhail Baryshnikov. IT'S AKSDJFSD BRILLIANT. Dancing! Eyefucking! Destiny's Child! You should watch it. Even if you haven't seen the movie. Then you should watch the movie, probably :D

This link (and the one above) goes to Dei's post where you can read about the vid, watch it on youtube, and download it if you want. Imma go do that some more. :D

Three things on YouTube making me happy at the moment:

The first is a fanvid of amazingness by Charmax76. The post about it is here on livejournal. A woman-centered, multi-fandom video that makes me grin from ear to ear.

The second is something that my hairdresser sent me this morning. I love and adore him, and last time I was there we exchanged youtube information, and he and I always talk about Adam Lambert and I love that he saw this and thought of me. Also, it's Adam and P!nk. What's not to love?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMqvozsbN40

The third is this series of interviews of Chris Colfer by Piers Morgan.

followed by part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6alEZiXOjE&feature=player_embedded
and part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62q2lgpSSpE&feature=player_embedded

He turned TWENTY-ONE this week, guys. He's so poised and adorable and he's so young. I admire him like woah. He seems to be the favourite of all of his cast mates, and watching things like this, I can see why. ♥__♥

and now I must get ready for work. I hope you find something here to make you smile :D

As should be pretty obvious by now, Fandom is a really really happy place for me. This is because it's filled with some of the best people I've ever met. Also because it reminds me every day that we live in a world of infinite variety in experience and perception and that that can be a wonderful thing.

Today (in my part of the world), May 17th, is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia. [livejournal.com profile] missyjack (one of the wonderful fangirls I'm lucky enough to have in my life) is hosting a coming out meme. Here's how it works:

Simply post a comment (or pic, vid or macramé pot hanger) sharing something about your experience related to coming out. It may be coming out to yourself, how you worked out your gender or sexuality, or maybe how you’re in the process of doing that now. It might be about why you haven’t come out, or experiences of coming out to your friends or family or workmates. Or maybe you just want to pop in and say Hi I’m (insert sexual or gender identity of your choice).

It's already chock full of wonderful, inspiring, touching, complicated, simple, familiar, and brand new stories. My heart is warm, and I'm a little verklempt.

You know how sometimes a chance you're really not sure you want drops into your lap, and you hem and haw and decide to take it anyway? A couple of months ago (it seems like it anyway) [livejournal.com profile] miss_begonia texted me and asked if I wanted a ticket to see My Chemical Romance. At the time I was a big fan of Na Na Na Na and Sing, but had discovered I really didn't like Three Cheers or Black Parade when I tried listening to them this summer. I really really wanted to like them though, so I decided to take the ticket, and work in the weeks I had before the concert on becoming a fan of MCR's music as well as the band and the fic. IT TOTALLY WORKED. By today I liked or loved all the songs on all three albums (I never got hold of Bullets) except for one, which considering my starting point, was pretty good going, I thought.

Worth every single second of listening. The gig was absolutely AMAZING. Getting the shallow bit out of the way first: Gerard Way has an amazing ass, and Mikey Way is the hottest lesbian since Tommy Joe Ratliff. I do not understand how Frank didn't melt into a puddle or burst into flame, given he was wearing a thermal shirt under a polo shirt and a grandpa sweater and jumping around like a lunatic under the lights that were making Gerard sweat until it poured off him. Ray Toro seems, from the little I could see around the head of the girl in front of me, to be amazing from head to toe. Gerard also is beautiful and has entrancing fingers, and the most amazing hip-cock pose ever. He's fucking royalty, and a tremendous presence on stage.

[livejournal.com profile] emilytheodd was so so awesome and went upstairs to the coatcheck and got me earplugs after the first opening act, because it felt like my ears were bleeding. They made the Neon Trees and My Chem much better than they would have been without. I could hear the words!

There were several songs I was really hoping they would play, and they did play almost all of them. Na Na Na and Sing and Mama, and Famous Last Words, and Gravity, and Vampire Money, and Helena, and Cancer, and some I can't remember the names of right now because it's 12:20 and I just had a fucking amazing night. We were right in the center, on the third tier of the floor, and the sound was fantastic. We started out with [livejournal.com profile] lokte and me second row behind the barrier and miss b and emily in third row. The girl next to me was not only not dancing at all, she was bitching about the fact that I was dancing because it jostled her camera. I really wanted to punch her in the throat, which was not awfully conducive to my having a great time. I was also dying of heat. Fortunately, about five songs in, emily wanted to stand in front of me (I'd offered several times) and that worked out great. I am tall enough I could still see perfectly, I wasn't next to irritating girl, and i was standing literally ON an airconditioning vent. WIN/WIN.

Extra added bonus, the venue is like ten minutes from my house.

I feel like whole new worlds of music have been opened up to me in the last 18 months or so as a direct result of fandom, and I really love it a lot.

Speaking of fandom, I need to thank [livejournal.com profile] mistresscurvy for her encouragement in my learning curve that led to tonight. You made this not only much more fun, but more possible. Fangirls--all of you--really are the best ever.

While I have always been more a singer/songwriter-style-of-music fan, I have had a soft spot in my heart for Guns and Roses since I was in high school. And Welcome to the Jungle was always one of my favourite of their songs. Imagine my delight when Jesha84 on youtube made a vid of Adam Lambert being a total sex-ass rockstar with Jungle as the soundtrack! :D :D

Life is utterly insane at the moment, and starting today I'm adding working six days a week into the mix, too. But I'm hoping for things to calm down by March... ♥
rivers_bend: (men: adam blow kiss)
So I'm gonna tell a slightly embarrassing story on myself right now. At Adam's show in London, he asked the crowd if we knew what his show was about. Totally without my knowing I was going to do it, I screamed, "LOVE!!!" And immediately started laughing at my own outburst. I'd heard the patter six times in person and IDEK how many times on video at that point, but I don't think I was saying it because it was part of his shtick, but because that is what his shows really ARE about for me.

in which I gush a lot about fangirls and love and fail to talk about the concert at all )

Gotta jet rn, but I will post about the show later!
rivers_bend: (men: tommy noh8)
Six years ago last night, Adam Lambert joined the Zodiac Show playing at the Music Box theater. He dressed in feathers and makeup, and poured his heart and soul and frustration into a performance of Change is Gonna Come. Four years later, the producers of American Idol asked him to sing it in the show's finale. Adam saw it as coming full circle. But last night the circle really came around as he performed the song again, on the same stage, same guitar player up there with him, after a six-month, nearly sold-out world tour, and with a Grammy Nomination under his belt. Last night I was too filled with the pleasure and joy and wonder of the moment to cry, but I'm writing this with tears in my eyes now. It was so incredible to be there, to think about the changes I've seen in the 20 years since I walked into my first queer students' meeting at UCSC, in the last two years since I watched Proposition 8 pass, in the last year since I stood in my aunt's living room at Thanksgiving with a newspaper in my hand, picture of Adam kissing Tommy at the AMAs in full color on the front and explained why it was so fucking important to me that it happened, and that Adam wasn't apologizing. That he'd done nothing wrong. Last night it felt like he was singing with heart and soul and hope.

and before that, a lot of other awesome happened )

The other thing that happened was NOH8 posted the picture they took of Tommy Joe Ratliff. He is in every way the most amazing bass player Adam could possibly have found. I'm not cutting it because it's too damn pretty. Sorry if it confuses your browser.

you can buy this picture, or pictures of other people, or t-shirts, or bumper stickers, or many other things at http://www.noh8campaign.com/ to help support their cause. Funds raised by the NOH8 Campaign will be used to continue promoting and raising awareness for Marriage Equality and anti-discrimination on a global level through an educational and interactive media campaign. It's a spoke in the wheel.
