I am in love. I am enraptured. I am so fucking happy right now that my face hurts and I almost crashed the car twice in the less than a mile back to our hotel and I don't think I even would have cared if I actually
had crashed it.
And the funny thing is that most of the things I pinpointed my sense of foreboding to, actually happened. Adam did not sing Whole Lot of Love. His voice was definitely scratchy. He actively ignored Tommy for the whole set. We didn't stay afterwards in the hopes of seeing Sasha or some of the other folks out and about in the hotel. We got lost multiple times driving over to the Borgata and driving back to our hotel, even though they are pretty much across the street from each other, because the roads here are SO EFFED UP.
But you know what? I COULD NOT CARE LESS. I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW. THAT WAS THE MOST AMAZING THING I EVER SAW.
I don't even know what to say....
Okay, start at the beginning I guess. Or from where I left off. We got let into the "event center" (which was pretty much a ball room with a stage on one end) at 6:45. We ended up about 4 or 5 people back slightly to the left of center, which was my choice, as that's where Cam's keyboards are, and where Sasha does more than half of her dancing.
runedgirl, who was seeing the show for the third time, left us to go have coffee and sit down, and
balefully and I settled in for a whole lot of standing.
There was a lovely woman standing in front of us who clearly didn't think Lucy and I were crazy fangirls, because she talked and chatted with us, and we rolled our eyes at the really drunk people, and it was really lovely and flattering for some reason. Neither of us knew why, but we both thought so :D They played Wheel in the Sky while we were waiting; clearly they knew there were SPN fangirls in the house. I was totally torn between feeling sick with excitement and grinning my face off.
Allison came on at eight and BLEW US AWAY. Her voice is PHENOMENAL. Like... HOW THE HELL IS THAT GIRL 18??????? Also, omg, I am a dirty old lady but she is RIDICULOUSLY hot. Also I kind of slash her with her whole band. I am crazy in love with Liz, who is so cute on Twitter, and during Orianthi's set tweeted that her life was weird because half an hour before she'd been on stage in front of thousands of people (a definite exaggeration) and now she was watching an on-line lecture for school :) She is RIDICULOUSLY adorable also. Orianthi and Allison together were astounding.
Orianthi on her own, not so much. Her set was SO LOUD. Like body-vibrating in a bad way, ears ringing and sore, head thumping loud. She is unquestionably a talented guitar player--exceedingly so--but I wanted to be able to hear Adam when he came on. During her last song she asked us to scream "Shut Up" at her. We were more than happy to oblige. I really wish that a) I'd gone ahead and bought her album when I bought Allison's, so that I would know the songs, and b) that she hadn't been turned up to 11. I did have fun writing a fic in my head about how her hot-ass drummer jerked off on her rhythm guitar player's face one time when guitar boy was passed out stoned on the sofa (just to be a dick) but he found that he liked it, and couldn't stop doing it after that. I really will slash
anyone apparently.
And then they set up for Adam. We were getting REALLY tired of standing by that point. But I knew once Adam came on my back would stop hurting and my feet would be okay, and all would be good with the world. It was even better than that.
I have not been a concert spoilerphobe, so I knew what was going to happen and what it was going to look like, but I didn't
know. He is STUNNING. And electric. And just absolutely delighted and delightful and talented beyond belief. His voice was tremendously scratchy when he was speaking, but his singing voice was stellar. There were a few places where it had a slight burr, but it was gorgeous. I realized yesterday when I was sharing his album with Lucy on the way up here that I am actually a bit disappointed with his album now that I've heard the live versions so often. It seems clear to me that the album was put together quickly. His voice is so much better than they managed to showcase on some of the tracks. I cannot wait for his next album which hopefully will have more songs of his, and more time.
It felt like he was on stage for about three minutes, but it was the best three minutes of my life. He has so much energy and presence, and best of all, he has mastered that skill of looking at the audience like he's looking RIGHT AT YOU. Several times I felt like our eyes met and he was staring into my soul. It was kind of the most amazing thing ever.
All the places Adam has been flirting and kissing and licking with Tommy he barely looked at or touched him, and Tommy was totally pouting (with his very curly hair and lipsticked lips), and he was singing along with almost all the songs while giving Adam hearteyes.
Because Adam's voice is not happy we only got Mad World in the encore, which while disappointing on one level, wasn't disappointing at all on the level of THIS CONCERT WAS THE BEST THING EVER.
We cleared out, and then left the hotel pretty quick as Lucy's feet were killing her. It turned out that Tommy and Liz and Monte were cruising the hotel afterward, but even if I had happened to see them, I would not have dared speak to them, so I shall just live vicariously through tweets and pics as I always do :)
Now we're stuffed on room service and room-service booze, and it's finally getting to be bed time. I will post pictures and vids tomorrow.
