I have been watching and wholly enjoying this show since the premiere, but I will admit it's been more for the characters and the actors than for the crimes and storytelling. I felt like tonight they got the whole package going on. But I have to admit that I did, for a while there, think that they had cast Vinnie Jones as Moriarty, and I just couldn't. I could not. I am so glad that that was a particularly ridiculous red herring. And I think the only reason I believed it at all was because of the nature of the cases in the previous episodes. I actually doubt it was a long con, but if it was, kudos to the writers.
Also kudos, again again, to Lucy and Johnny, both of whom manage to play understated emotion BRILLIANTLY.
in conclusion, JOAN, WHAT ARE YOUR SWEATERS. JUST. WHAT.

Also, "what you do is amazing" - and both of them MEANT IT. Also also, JOAN STAAAAAAAYED.

THEY DID BOTH MEAN IT. And fucking hell, that look on Joan's face, where she was riding the line between believing him and wondering if he was maybe mocking her, but without ever looking like she doubted herself because of that. And the way he was acting like a TOTAL CHILD and she didn't pander or bend, she just carried on doing what she needed to do and letting him have his strop. GOD I LOVE HER SO MUCH. And I also loved that they put the scene in with her therapist, because I felt like that made it clear that yes, his breakdown was part of her decision to stay, but it was also a decision she was making for herself for her own reasons.

And I agree, they both really bring it with the understated emotion. I really liked Holmes' repetition of Joan's words to him, such a tender, quiet moment.
