[livejournal.com profile] skyblue_reverie and I went to the Join the Impact rally in San Francisco this morning. It was really hot and hard to hear because of the news copters and the crapness of the sound system, but there were some great signs, and we found a coolish patch of shade where we could mostly hear after a while, and I'm really glad we went. We did leave early and didn't march because neither of us was feeling very well.

We came back and I made some pizza and then we went and saw Quantum of Solace. I am SO SO HAPPY with the fact that James Bond is actually a SPY now, and not just an international playboy. Daniel Craig makes me happy. I do think that the movie should have been called Quantum of Collateral Damage. Good lord there were people and cars and buildings falling left right and center. How the HELL was that a PG-13?... AAAAAAAAND, when I whipped out my student ID when I went to pay for the tickets, she gave me both of them at student price. And then said something about not forgetting my ID because it would suck to be locked out of the dorms. I decided to be flattered that she thought I looked young enough to live in dorms. *g*

After the movie we stopped at Peet's and I tried to get a peppermint chocolate shake, but it was a peppermint mocha shake. I don't really like coffee (or really don't like coffee to be more accurate) but it was VERY chocolaty so I drank it. My eyes are vibrating.

I'm going to try to write. I'm not sure I can cope with reading the uber-depressing stuff for my classes right now. I need to jitter. Plus, I am behind schedule on my fic commitments. *checks calendar*

eeep!

eta well, I've reached my self-imposed minimum of 300 800 words, so I can count today as a win. *g* so far, I'm 14 for 15, with only election day scuppering writing plans.

I was SO EXCITED to see it. I used to watch all the old ones, but I really was exhausted by the cheese and the crap special effects and just how sexist and awful they were. I am SO glad they came into the 21st century and started giving people what they want, which was Bourne with nods to the Bond shtick.

I hope you enjoy it!!

I have been busy--you've been doing neat, cool things, too!--and what I've noticed this time out is how lonely it is. It's weird. I'm typically a pretty solitary creature; I love my alone time, and I love for that time to be filled with creating. But since I've been writing in the SPN fandom and sharing that with all of you awesome folks, the original writing has felt more isolated. I still love it; in fact, with this story more than ever, I can't *not* write it, you know? But I miss writing fanfic and posting and sharing comments and being a part of that community.

Of course, I'm only 10K or so off the end of this project, so I'll be rejoining the fandom world soonish.

Still, I appreciate the return smishes. :-)

I am WAAAAY too much of an addict to not post to LJ :) It's ridiculous, actually. But it really does make the difference I find. Lots of my friends on the programme talk about being blocked and find it hard to write for weeks or months at a time. I have never once had that since finding LJ and starting writing. and it is all due to having fandom to inspire me.

*smishes more for good measure* :D

*hugs* I was thinking of you at the rally - it made the news here as well.

I too really enjoy Daniel Craig as James Bond! I thoroughly enjoyed Casino Royale, so will be back for QofS.

Our news was telling us that you were even rallying with us in Aus :D

Definitely go back for QoS. Craig continues to be rather genius.

I'm so shallow.

Holy fuck, when he's wearing a suit and they catch him from the back and he's all slim and hard and .... GUH.

and I had a little fantasy in my head going on where George Cloony plays his love interest in the next film, and I was in my HAPPY place.

sounds like a good day was had!!

i can't wait to see quantum, i love craig's bond and like the direction he (and tptb) are taking him. just speaking from seeing his performance in casin royale so far, i like that his is a gritty, rough bond. a bond that can and does make mistakes. a young bond, even.

Good day indeed. Though tiring! He's grittier and rougher in this film. And mmm mmm yeah. ALL GOOD.

I really liked QoS too, but yes, I spent most of the time cringing at the amount of damage being done. Does it really make matters better to destroy half the city? :/

I really did not want the cop in the first car chase to have to die, or the woman watching the horse races, or the hotel staff at the end. and actually, I feel GOOD about that. Like i'm not just a whore for the stunts, I do still actually care about people. And I felt like they were using it to show how broken Bond was, how careless. And I do hope that they carry this through in the next film and make him changed again by the events of QoS. I loved that they didn't just forget about Casino Royale in this film.

But it did make the film harder to watch. Made it more work. And I hope that doesn't bite them in the arse. IDK. I do really want another one now, though. with a man Bond has to seduce :)

How did the whole day go? Was there a good turn out all around the country?

And that coffee drink thing? Sounds AWESOME. *grabby hands*

posted by [identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com at 05:40pm on 16/11/2008
It was a good turnout. The news I was watching said something about 250,000 people nation wide.

The drink would have been much better if it were just peppermint and chocolate. No coffee. blik. But it was good enough that I would recommend it to anyone who DOES like coffee.

One of my friends was at the Chicago prop 8 protest and she saw an anti-mormon sign there reading "My two moms can beat up your 14 wives". Which I thought was pretty much the awesomest thing ever, even as wary as I am of going all hate-on-mormons to get our own don't-hate ideas across. STILL. AWESOME SIGN WAS AWESOME.
I'm thrilled with the publicity the protests got, and just how wide-spread they were! I've been putzing around the city more often lately, and I've come across Human Rights Campaign workers on the streets almost every time, which just warms my heart. For every hate-filled person out there, there's someone willing to stand up against it, and. God. It's late, and I'm all sentimental right now, but the bravery and strength I've seen ever since opening my eyes to it is something that I'll always feel privileged to know.

It is heartwarming to see that this is not something people are going to lie down and take. There were two gay Mormon men speaking at the Rally here yesterday, and they love god, and they love that being out and gay has finally allowed them to LOVE THEMSELVES. They made me all tearful.

I'm always happy to hear people are writing, reaching their goals, even if I can read only sporadically. :)

Same goes for news of good days.
