Can someone who has seen Season Three of Lost please explain to me What the hell made Charlie lock that door and keep it locked?

He didn't need to do it to save Desmond, even if he was worried the grenade would cause more damage than it did, once he saw it didn't, he could have opened the door again and gotten a scuba kit. He did what he went there to do, he found out what he needed to know, and it turned out there was a way out of dying.

So why did he die?

I'm not really buying that it was just because Desmond said he did.

And lest you think this is just a Woe!!! Charlie can't die, I love him!!!! moment, that's not why I'm asking. Character and plot-wise I don't see how it makes sense.

He died in that ridiculous way cos the writers wanted him off the show. LMAO That's the best explanation I can come up with. Lost really pissed me off that season.

I've been watching the extras, and they all talk about it like it was totally inevitable. And ok, that's fine with me. It's a moving idea, and the killing of Charlie works for me as a sacrifice and all. And him hitting Desmond and being the one to go down and his attitude with the women like he knew he was going to die... All good. But they really needed not to have given him an out only to have him mysteriously not take it. Sloppy, is what I think. *sulks*

*sighs heavily*

You want to have tried watching it on first TV showing. "But, but, open the door! Charlie, CHARLIE! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

I really could have done without the 'will he/won't he' stress.

Charlie, as a character, kinda rocks. Of course, it didn't hurt that he spent rather a lot of screen time with Desmond.

I like to think that maybe, after all of D's predictions, C just assumed his death there was inevitible, as had everything else been up to that point.

Of course, the word SLOPPY keeps springing to mind, no matter what.

However, S4 was right back up there with the excitement and writing and plot twists. It really made up for the mess that was S3.

If Charlie thought he had to die to save everyone, i actually think it would have been more moving. If there had only been one tank of air, or if he'd locked Des out to protect him but then got stuck, or if they'd made it plain that Des was nowhere near ready with the tanks and he would have drowned if Charlie had opened the door, I would have been fine. Anything, really. They just had to throw me a tiny bone. but they did not.

I actually liked a lot about S3, but i was not at all a fan of S2. I've just discovered S4 doesn't come out til bloody december though. *sulks*

It was kind of lame wasn't it? I loved the episode before, when he was writing his list (awww), but when it came down to it, he seemed to believe in the inevitability of his death so much that he actually brought about his own demise.

Stupid Charlie. Stupid Writers.

I loved his list. It broke my heart. And Desmond better give it to Claire. Thank god he wrote in sharpie.

They did a bad job of showing us he believed it was inevitable, I thought. *pokes the writers*

Charlie was kinda inconsistent throughout the seasons though. It was like they just randomly threw plotlines at the poor boy. I will miss him. And the adorable Dom.

btw, congratulations on the [livejournal.com profile] crack_impala rec!!!!

Yeah, I didn't really get that either... and I didn't want Charlie to die because, well, he was Charlie... But yeah, like you say, it also didn't entirely make sense...

my take is he did it cuz he loved claire so much, and wanted desmond's prediction to be true that she would make it off the island.

damn, i only have one lost icon, and i can't use lest i spoil you.
