Ten House/Wilson drabbles. It's that [livejournal.com profile] housefic_pens first ten songs on Party Shuffle thing that's going around.

Every one's exactly 100 words. And let me tell you, that was a bitch.

Snark, schmoop and smut. I can't compete on the angst front. I figure, when you're worried about word count, it's best to stick to your strengths.

Virginia Woolf
House saw Wilson reading in the glow of the table lamp. He subtly hid the title when he saw House looking, as though he didn’t know the man.

“What you reading?”

“Just a book”

“Uh huh. What book?”

“It’s a novel. Nothing exciting.”

“Just tell me and I’ll go away and leave you alone. Don’t tell me, and I’m prepared to sit here all night.”

Wilson sighed. “Mrs. Dalloway.”

“Mrs. Dalloway. Why?”

“I’ve never read it.”

“Millions of people have never read it. I’m pretty sure it’s not a requirement for life.”

Wilson crossed his arms.

“You watched The Hours didn’t you?”

Blood Makes Noise
Wilson’s favourite time of night was after House fell asleep. No more sniping; no more turning away. It had been difficult to get House to agree to share his bed in the first place, and the man seemed determined to try to make Wilson regret asking.

Sleeping House welcomed Wilson however. His hand would edge across, seeking Wilson’s arm, or thigh, or stomach. Wilson could slide closer then; brush House’s ankle with his foot, curl into his warmth.

If House needed two Vicodin at bed-time, Wilson could even put his head on House’s chest and listen to his heart beating.

Testify
"I'm not gonna testify at your divorce hearing."

"But you got a subpoena. You have to testify."

"Not gonna happen."

"You're named as the adulterous party. Her lawyer gets to cross examine you. You have to tell the court about our sex life."

"What?"

"He just needs a few details. They want to know how you bugger me in the elevator and the supply closet; how I give you head in exam room three."

"I'm not going to court."

"It's just a hearing. Don't worry about it. It's no big deal."

"No!"

"House? House, wake up. You're having a nightmare."

Flamingo Baby
"I bet you twenty bucks you can't stand on one leg for five minutes."

"What?"

"Come on, Chase took the bet."

"Did he win?"

"Of course not."

"So what makes you think I'm going to take the bet?"

"Are you saying you're smarter than Chase?"

"I'm saying I know you better."

"Come on. Five minutes! D'you know what the world record is?"

"I've no idea."

"It's 76 hours and 40 minutes. That's more than three days. Surely you can do five minutes."

"I bet whoever broke the record didn't have you around to bother him."

"So, what's your point?"

"House…"

Mer girl
"Daryl Hannah in Splash or Ariel?"

"What?"

"Who would you rather do? Daryl Hannah or Ariel?"

"Ariel's a cartoon."

"Daryl Hannah is an actress."

"Is there a reason you suddenly imagine I have a thing for mermaids?"

"She was hot in that movie."

"Daryl Hannah?"

"We could get Kill Bill. It's been a while since we saw that."

"You know Uma irritates me."

"You're right. Plus, she has those freaky toes."

"How about Blade Runner?"

"Ha! I knew you had a thing for Daryl Hannah."

"I never said… You were the one suggesting Daryl Hannah films."

"You are so busted."

Effigy
A souvenir from Graceland, Chase supposed it was an Elvis doll, but it looked a lot like Wilson. A Doctor Barbie outfit from K-Mart gave him a lab coat, and the resemblance was almost scary.

He’d brought it in when Wilson was at a conference for a week – saying the diagnostics department didn’t seem the same without him, he was around so often.

House eyed it nervously during differential. When Chase came back with lab results it was gone.

When he found it two weeks later in a drawer with House’s iPod, yo-yo and gameboy, Chase didn’t say a word.

Think about you
There's a Tupperware container in the corner of the kitchen. A green toothbrush in the medicine cabinet. A book of matches from the Chicago Hyatt on the coffee table. Green tea soap in the soap dish.

There's a fork in the drawer of my desk from the salad you ate every bite of while I looked on hungrily. That red pen isn't mine either.

There's a tie in the back seat of my car. You leave your life scattered in mine.

There's this idea you have that I need objects to make me think of you when you're not there.

Jaded
House likes to brag that nothing can surprise him.

His air of indifference is legendary. Anger, sarcasm, hurt, rules, regulations… water off a duck’s back.

Wilson is pleased to discover that there is at least one thing that can leave House breathless with shock; eyes wide, jaw slack.

Apparently he never expected his best friend to follow him into the shower, press him up against the cold tiles and kiss him until he moaned and pressed back.

While he has House rendered speechless, Wilson takes advantage – testing the rasp of stubble on his cheek, tasting the water on House’s skin.

Wearing and Tearing
Wilson had hundreds of white T-shirts. Completely interchangeable. Not a memory, an event, nor any sentimental value linked to a single one of them.

Except the one with a tear at the neck. That one was special.

He'd been wearing it the night he and House went to the all night Hitchcock film festival. The night they'd gotten lost on the way home and stopped for breakfast at a diner so greasy you could taste the air.

House had slipped getting back in the car and had caught himself by grabbing Wilson around the neck. And he didn't pull away.

Let me Entertain You (sequel to Superstar)
House had had a long day. He wanted a hot shower and a stiff drink. He forgot both when he saw what was waiting on the other side of his front door.

Wilson stood in the middle of the room. Wearing nothing but leather pants. A Sharpie pen stuck out of the front pocket.

"You thought you could seduce me with leather and ink?"

"I hoped."

"Do I get to write whatever I want?"

"Within reason."

"Have you ever known me to be reasonable?"

"Not once. What if I said that I don't care?"

"I'd say you were a fool."

Is that Virginia Woolf by the Indigo Girls? Because I dearly love that song. Nice writing. Their relationship is shown in nice variety here.

It is indeed that very song. I was so glad it came up on the shuffle because I hadn't listened to it in ages.

Variety is the spice of House/Wilson :D

Lovely work!

I liked them all, but especially Blood Makes Noise, Think About You, and Wearing and Tearing.

What a nice treat on a quiet Friday night.

I wish there was an accurate count of how far and wide the random shuffle exercise has gone on LJ. It pops up in all th House comms, I think.

I really like these. "Effigy" made me snort with laughter, and gave me an insane desire to run to Kmart and check out the Barbie selection. "Testify" had me completely convinced -- Wilson just sounds so damned reasonable!

"Blood Makes Noise" is so sweet -- I love the ending line: If House needed two Vicodin at bed-time, Wilson could even put his head on House’s chest and listen to his heart beating. It fits so well, too, with "Think About You": You leave your life scattered in mine.

I love the little inside joke about Uma's toes and the image of Wilson in leather pants with a Sharpie is just way, way too funny!

teehee! The elvis doll in the lab coat, and the nightmare, and Wilson sleeping on House's chest and ...

Yeah, I don't have anything terribly coherent to say, but these are lovely.

Oh, these are great! I love drabbles like this, they're like snapshots.

I can't stop laughing at Effigy because whilst in the library, doing research, I found an encyclopedia of advertisements from the 70s, including "the world's first gay doll: Gay Bob", even though the doll looks nothing at all like Wilson.

I so want a Gay Bob doll!!!! That is awesome!

I'm glad you like these :D Thank you for coming along and commenting. Yay!

As a lifelong Elvis fan Effigy made me laugh out loud! And Blodd Makes Noise was awesome - so were the others but these were my favorites.

I'm glad Effigy works for hardcore Elvis fans. I was worried that the fact RSL looks very little like Elvis would be a problem. But a boy came into work yesterday with a superman doll from the new film and it looked SO NOTHING like Brandon Routh that it prompted me to write this.

thank you!

Chiming in with love for "Blood Makes Noise" and "Effigy." And you know what? "Mer girl" too, because it's just too amusing to imagine the two of them trying to pick out movies at the store. Nice work, and kudos for sticking to the word limit.

Thank you for saying you like Mer girl. When that song came up on the shuffle I was so tempted to pretend it wasn't there. I had NO idea how I was going to do that one, and I left it to last in despair, but I was pretty pleased with how it turned out in the end.

and YAY for word limit appreciation! :D

I just picture House opening his drawer, just a little, when no one is looking, to peek at his stolen Wilson doll :D

I'm glad you like!

I'm quite glad to hear "creepy but amusing". cos it is kind of creepy... but it makes me giggle, both that Chase went to the trouble and that House stole it. if I may say so myself

These are all lovely! Snark, schmoop & smut ... my kind of thing.

I have a special fondness for Mer girl because it made me giggle so much, picturing that exchange. :)

Horray for snark, schmoop and smut fans! :D

and thank you so much for liking Mer girl, the inclusion of which title on my prompt list nearly made me cry, but the end result of which I was actually pleased with.

House is, after all, amusingly annoying with his doggedness. :D

You brilliant wench! These were all smashing and lovely and gut wrenching and if someone has to write schmoop, it might as well be someone who knows how to do it. Extra points for Uma!

God, how I love schmoop.
"Think About You" is possibly my favorite thing ever.
"Virginia Woolf" made me laugh out loud: (“Just tell me and I’ll go away and leave you alone. Don’t tell me, and I’m prepared to sit here all night.” Ha!
These are so great. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only schmoop fan out there. Our boys are angsty for sure, but I do loves me a bit of awwww as well :D

hehe! Wilson so should have just let House see the title and saved himself a lot of trouble.

Thank you!

Aw, these were (mostly) lots of fun, although I do have a soft spot for Blood Makes Noise. Effigy and The Return of the Leather Pants were also delightful :)

posted by [identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com at 09:23am on 18/11/2006
I too have a soft spot for secret when he's too drugged to notice House-cuddling. :)

"Let me Entertain You" called to the leather pants, though I am not sure the final drabble had quite as much to do with the prompt as I first imagined.

and now I have an image of a Wilson doll in leather pants and a labcoat... :D

*flails* Sequel to Superstar! *dies*

Love the snarky ones, Effigy makes me want to find a way to make House and Wilson action figures :D Blood Makes Noise is absolutely lovely and Jaded is just, perfect, and needs to happen.

But Let me Entertain You has won my heart because a) sequel! *hearts* and b) there is SO much potential in House+Wilson+sharpie *glee* Although I hate to think what House would write where Wilson couldn't see *giggles* But at least he'd have an alternative for next time he breaks the whiteboard ;D

Although I hate to think what House would write where Wilson couldn't see *giggles*

in a first, aint never gonna be 100 words, draft, House wrote, "he may ask you to marry him, but he'll never be faithful and he'll never be yours. He's mine." but he wrote it right across Wilson's chest.

I quite like the idea of him labling all his muscles for some reason too... but I may just think a leeeeetle bit too much about House writing on Wilson with that Sharpie.

Ooh, these are great. And do you know, I didn't read your author's notes carefully, so I read them all and was grinning at how good they were, and then I read the comments and figured out that these were based on totally random song-title promps! Wow - really impressive.

I especially loved the dialog-based ones - you have such a gift for capturing House and Wilson's banter.

Oh, and I'm seconding the request for the longer version of the leather pants sequel where House writes his possessive message on Wilson's chest! *g*

Blood Makes Noise made me melt. It was Wilson resting his head on House's chest that did it. The whole listening to another person's heartbeat gets me every time. Beautifully done, as always. Lovelovelove.

Very nice. I have a bit of a hard time with drabbles cos I'm so used to cramming as many words as possible into a fic, explaining everything in detail, which you can't do in drabbles.

I really liked all these, they were awesome.

I'm totally crazy about drabbles. I love trying to tell a whole story in just 100 words. I was wanting to do a song title drabble prompt for Sam and Dean, but then school started and homework came. Maybe some day.

thank you for reading, honey! and I'm glad you liked them. It gave me a chance to re-read them. I'd forgotten about lots of them.
