I had a whole long post I'd started about The Playboy Club and how much I liked it and the fact that there was finally a show on my TV with multiple strong and sexy female characters, who have relationships with each other not based on blood ties, but then NBC cancelled it so there doesn't seem much point. Instead, since I caught up last night, I'll talk about Supernatural.
After watching 7.01, I was pretty sure that I was actually completely done with the show. I would say I hated it but that is honestly too strong an emotion to attribute to something I cared so little about. I found it so uninteresting that I actually got up and started doing dishes while it was on. But then I started hearing rumours about the next two episodes, so I thought I would give the season another try. and LO. I LIKED IT.
I make no bones about being a monster-of-the week girl. I'm not a big fan of shows that utterly depend on an arc; I prefer that to be in the background. I also really don't like religion featuring in anything I'm watching for entertainment. blah blah whatever. But 7.02 and 7.03 did a much better job of being monster-of-the-week-y. As usual, the casting department is doing a great job hiring people who can carry the emotions of the script. I loved seeing Jewel, and I thought the girl who played young Amy was fantastic. Also, COLIN. As always, a perfect young Sam. And I would actually be interested to read the epic AU where Sam does run away with her and they hunt together, with Sam trying to find her supernatural baddies who are also human so that she can feed. And him finding his powers, them navigating that, Dean helping while trying to keep his contact with Sam secret from their dad... idk. It would be interesting, though.
I don't like that Dean killed Amy. Not at all (though I do like how the scene mirrors Kill Bill, as
missyjack pointed out with helpful video). But it's interesting, and it's good writing, and I do like that.
So I will keep watching. At least for now. Even though if I record both SPN and CSI: NY, that means I cannot watch the Friday night Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives marathon that I got addicted to over the summer...
