As seen round about my flist...

Here are 15 of my favorite couples (het/slash/canon/fanon). I open the floor for you to comment on what trends you notice about my couples. I have tried to pick different fandoms, but I couldn't choose between my two Firefly ships. Also, go head and ask questions about why I 'ship, what I like best, my ideal fics, etc. :D

  1. Sam/Dean (SPN)
  2. Jared/Jensen (CWRPS)
  3. Max/Liz (Roswell)
  4. Zoe/Wash (Firefly)
  5. Holmes/Watson (Sherlock Holmes)
  6. Sulu/Chekov (ST reboot)
  7. Willow/Tara (Buffy)
  8. Max/Julian (Tiger Trap)
  9. Kaylee/Inara (Firefly)
  10. Jack/Pilot (Highway)
  11. Adam/Tommy (AI RPS)
  12. Marcus/Kyle (Terminator 4)
  13. Sabretooth/Wolverine (X-Men Wolverine)
  14. Dom/Brian (Fast & Furious series)
  15. Arthur/Merlin (Merlin)

eta I've just realized that I left out my first ever ship like burning: Stuart/Vince from QaF:UK. I burned with the need for them to be together. But now I've left them out, I cannot remove another pairing to put them in. So SIXTEEN SHIPS.

And here's the c/p of the meme as written: Name your 15 absolutely favorite couples (het/slash/canon/fanon) and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms. Also, people can ask questions about why I 'ship, what I like best, or ideal fics, etc.

You're a True Love kinda gal, aren't you?
(not that there's anything wrong with that!)

Although I do see a little FoeYay in there, too...what appeals to you about Sabretooth/Wolverine?

I am definitely a true love kind of girl :D Epic love forever after.

I think the thing that appeals to me most about Sabretooth/Wolverine is that ponderosa (http://ponderosa.dreamwidth.org/) and blue_soaring (http://blue-soaring.dreamwidth.org/) write such amazingly hot fic for them. I haven't actually sought out any other fic, and I cannot imagine writing it. Also, I am easy for incest pairings, and, hello, blade play that can get ridiculously extreme but not deadly? HELLS YEAH. I'm rarely a fan of antagonistic pairings, but the fact that (in movie verse) they're brothers, and therefore bonded, makes the difference there for me.

Oh my yes, I'm a complete and utter h0r for those two, too! And for blade play. ;D

Have you ever shipped Simon/River?

I cannot ship anyone/River. I maybe could come to it if it were set a while after the movie, but as I watched the TV show so much before I ever saw that, the River that lives in my heart is so much a broken child that any sort of sexual relationship with her triggers all my abuse issues. I also generally can't do het incest pairings, though how much of that is due to the fact that most of the ones I've seen have had a gender-swapped character (which I also cannot do at all), I don't know. I did just fine with Flowers in the Attic, though that was a hell of a long time ago :)

Yep, I have much the same problems with River, and het incest in general. Although I'll admit, the idea of a post-Serenity River and a post-Apocalypse Sam is intriguing...

BUT... DEAN!!!!!!!!!!! :) That is a pairing that I might be able to bring myself to write, but I am not sure I could read it, because I'd have no idea how it tore apart my OTP to beat all OTPs. I do love fic where Sam and Dean find themselves in the world of Serenity, especially ones where they are immortal and so have just lived long enough to get there. Possibly because in that situation they can totally be each other's forever girl, but have other sexual relationships for a change of pace?

Sam/River would, OF COURSE, only be possible in a world without Dean! ;D

Or perhaps they could be in a platonic relationship...it's the idea of their mutual powers, with their 'evil' origins and moral ambiguity, that I find intriguing. Heh, I'm arguing elsewhere with someone about whether or not Sam's powers are inherently evil and will always lead to evil, forever and ever amen. I'm arguing for the more complex moral stance that it's how you use your power, not the source of it, that makes it evil or not.

Definitely you're a True Love person, and a BFF slasher like me, for the most part. Also, it looks like you hew pretty closely to canon, for the most part, which I do as well. By which I mean, you ship pairings that are very plausible, given canon. You don't just throw together two random pretty boys who never have any interaction - not that there's anything wrong with that! Just isn't my cup o'tea, or yours, it seems.

Or, at least, that's what I thought, looking at this list. YMMV, of course. :)

I do have a taste for utterly random but pretty-to-look-at pairings (see Jensen Ackles/Anderson Cooper or Adam Lambert/Johnny Weir for example), but they are extremely unlikely to reach any kind of OTP status for me. I definitely like me some canon chemistry. I cannot think of any "implausible" fictional pairings that I like--they are all RPF pairings. Where I don't really see it in canon, if I do write it, it's much more likely to be a femslash pairing, like Sara Sidle/Catherine Willows from CSI, and that is generally out of a desire for femslash, but a dearth of media-supplied pairings.

I will read utterly random pairings if I love the author; for instance, [livejournal.com profile] paperclipbitch can sell me on ANY pairing on earth, it seems. But yeah. They are unlikely to end up on a list of favorite pairings.

It's true what you say about some random pairings (Adam Lambert/Johnny Weir - well, I don't know much about either of them but as far as I know it's random) but the Jensen/Andersen? As hot as it was (and it was smoking), it was at heart, an OTP pre-slash/one-sided Jared/Jensen fic. So I still say that supports my point. :p

A/J is totally random. afaik they've never met, and Adam says Johnny is not his type, though everyone keeps asking him about Johnny. But all that glitter and slinky hips... :D :D

and yeah. J/A was just another J2 fic in disguise, but I do kinda ship the ex-soap star and the pretty news man in a friends with benefits way. Which is SO not my usual thing. Jensen makes me do crazy shit.

My observation would be that these are all fairly recent fandoms. Have you ever shipped characters from older shows and movies?

posted by [identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com at 10:54pm on 25/02/2010
Nope. I was virulently anti-ship when I was younger, as I lived in this whole world where I didn't understand why I didn't fancy any of the guys I was "supposed" to fancy, and I found canon het ships lame, and there were no canon queer ships in my experience, and it never occurred to me for a moment that you could ship something that wasn't there in black and white as it were.

I wanted David/Maddie like burning when I used to watch Moonlighting, but when it happened it TOTALLY ruined the whole show, and so I never ever ever wanted Mulder/Scully, because I was sure the same would happen. I wasn't actually allowed to watch much TV when I was young anyway, so there weren't that many options. I suppose I could have shipped Crockett and Tubbs in Miami Vice, but see above :)

I guess you could say I shipped Danny/Sandy from Grease, but they are definitely not anyone who I would consider a favorite couple. I really did find the whole idea of couples mostly lame or yucky. All the movies I liked when I was young had friendShips rather than romantic ones. Then there were several years where I had no TV and rarely watched movies. And after that, I was just irked with heteronormativity and still knew nothing at all of fandom or the idea that you could ship people who weren't explicitly canon.

You know who I left out, though? Vince/Stuart from QaF:UK. omg. They were totally my first ever ship, and I shipped them so hard I couldn't BREATHE.

Fascinating reply, sweetheart! I am amazed that you lived several years without TV, as you are so fond of it these days.

I love learning more about you. ♥

It was my college years. We did have a TV/VCR in the common room at the dorm, but it didn't have cable or anything, so it was pretty much just good for watching movies. And then in England we had no TV at all the year I was at Uni. My senior year in college I lived in a house with TV, and watched Star Trek Next Generation, and Roseanne reruns, but that was about it. I suppose I did ship Darlene/David on Roseanne, now I think about it. Mostly I shipped Darlene/me though.

I am trying to think if there was anything I watched after moving back to England that I might have had any kind of ship for. I definitely watched Home and Away, but didn't ship anyone at all (except me/Angel and me/Isla Fisher) and pretty much everything else I watched (except X-files) was BBC cooking shows and such. Then Buffy came on and I started watching that. I never liked Angel/Buffy, and didn't ship anyone on there until Willow/Tara. I watched ER, and Friends, and a few other things, but it's only been in the last five or six years that I really got into TV. Now I don't know what I'd do without it!
