We're going back in time today, to an era of women who were being gorgeous before I was born. This is far from an exhaustive list, but is a selection of some of the women who sprang to mind first.

Marilyn Monroe

Vivian Leigh

Rita Hayworth

Audrey Hepburn

Elizabeth Taylor

Betty Grable

Ingrid Bergman

Catherine Deneuve

Marlene Dietrich

Myrna Loy

Raquel Welch

Sophia Loren

Katharine Hepburn

RITA HAYWORTH IS MY FOREVER GIRL!!!

<3333!

I really love ALL these lovely ladies, though. YAY old-school glamour.

yay!

Old-school glamour is the best. I used to have a bathing suit that was pretty much exactly like the one Rita is wearing on that bed. I loved it SO. MUCH. and then it disappeared when I went to college. D:

Liz Taylor! Catherine Deneuve! Catherine Deneuve with her cigarette and her upturned collar and her bracelets!!! I really, really like that photo of her.

I so would do Catherine in that picture with her smoking in a heartbeat. Even though she would smell of cigarettes which is usually offputting. but GOD she's gorgeous in that picture. She's such a MILF ;)

Lauren Bacall, please? *grins*

These are absolutely fabulous, hon. Thank you SO much. SUCH gorgeous, gorgeous women, with such CHARACTER, too.

Lauren has been added to the list. There are definitely enough other old school women to make another whole post of them, though I might sprinkle them in with modern times... who knows! :D

You are most welcome! I love that I have a list with more than 100 women on it that I've already posted about and I have another list with more than 100 women on it that people want me to post, and I've more in my head, besides. Not that I'm averse to the pretty boys popping up on my flist, but still ;)

Leigh is utterly stunning, isn't she? And yes. Classiness ooozes off the screen with these ladies. I think it's something to do with their super supportive undergarments ;)

the young elizabeth taylor was just unearthly beautiful. you've chosen stars i adored when i was a kid watching Saturday Night at the Movies. i had a girl-crush on betty grable, for one. thanks for these terrific photos!

I remember seeing Cat on a Hot Tin Roof for the first time and nearly falling over with how utterly beautiful she is. It's almost shocking.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this selection! :D :D

Oh, Marilyn. <3
And Raquel Welch has amazing hips.

posted by [identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com at 09:47pm on 23/09/2009
Marilyn is probably my favorite. The one material thing I was sad to lose in my 'divorce' was the framed print of that picture of her lifting weights.

I have no idea why, but I just love the shape of Elizabeth Taylor's face. She's just gorgeous really. As they all are. =D

Hello, oh American midwife friend, please may I interrogate you?

I've got a new-baby-in-hospital ficbit, and I need to mention those rooms full of babies with the big window to stare at them that they always have in TV - they're called nurseries, right? And those little trolley things you cart babies around in, those are just called cots, yes? Or do they have some fancypants name? More specifically, if they do have a fancypants name, is it one John Winchester would use in his head?

Thank you!!

(Also, wow, some of these women are a lot hotter than I gave them credit for in my head.)

posted by [identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com at 06:11pm on 24/09/2009
yes, that room is called a nursery. In England they are called cots, but I don't know that they'd be called that here, because babies sleep in cribs, and cots are what you unfold and sleep on at camp. I have no idea what the wheelie things would be called here, though.

:D

FABULOUS!! I love these pics.

And if you're keeping a list of more, please add Ginger Rogers, Cyd Charisse and Josephine Baker. (I guess I have dancers on the brain. Heh.) :-)

Stunning! I love so many of these actresses and their classic, fabulous movies.

May I put in a vote for Greta Garbo if you do part 2?

PS: I read your comment about Cat On A Hot Tin Roof - I can never not watch that movie when it is on tv. (I love Tennessee Williams plays.)

posted by [identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com at 06:18pm on 24/09/2009
Greta is on my list. She's awesome.

I've only seen Tennessee Williams plays turned into movies. I'd love to actually see one on stage at some point. I do love that movie.

Vivien Leigh has the most beautiful bitchface ever, man. I used to watch Gone with the Wind as a kid and hope that one day I'd grow up and be able to smack people and hurl invectives looking that sharp and pristine, lol.

P.S. Hi! I like your fic so I'm a-franding you, :D.

I feel pleased with myself; I only missed two*, and one of those was because I was so dazzled by Myrna Loy. In my next life, I want to come back as Nora Charles! So I can look like that. And exchange witty banter with my rich, sophisticated husband who worships the ground I wank on---er, walk on.

* Sorry, I can't pick Catherine Deneuve out of a line-up and I mistook "One Million Years BC" for "Barbarella".

posted by [identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com at 06:28pm on 24/09/2009
I actually didn't recognize the young Deneuve picture, as I've mostly only seen her a little older.

Isn't Myrna dazzling? There is something about her.

I never realized before how much you look like Grace Kelly, actually. You have very similar faces.

I know, right? She was a silent film star and then went on to star in other films into the 40s, and sporadically into the 60s.
