Title: Getting good marks in school
Pairing: Jared/Jensen High School AU (also featuring Chad and Misha)
Words: ~1,200
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Jared thinks someone is after his boyfriend, and he doesn't like it.
Jensen's locker is in C hall, three doors down from Jared's third period Spanish class. Since Jared's a sophomore and Jensen is a senior, they don't have any classes together except drama, so they meet there every day between second and third. There isn't time for more than a hello and a hand squeeze or a brush of fingers over a hip or shoulder. They learned the hard way not to try more. People know they're boyfriends, but not everyone is okay with that, and there's an asshole element who thinks sharing their opinion loudly and rudely is the way to go. Making out in the halls aggravates them, so it's just easier not to. It is the only time Jared and Jensen get to see each other between first bell and lunch though, and even that brief contact is much better than nothing.
However, today Jensen is not at his locker when Jared arrives. Instead, Jared sees Misha Collins—the new boy who's in their drama and Jensen's English and calculus classes—stuffing a note through the locker's vents. Jared is about to ask him what the hell he thinks he's doing messing around with his boyfriend's locker, when Chad shouts at him from down the hall.
"Jay-man, pop-quiz today. Get your flashcard-having ass over here."
With a last look around for Jensen, who is still nowhere to be seen, and a hard glare at the back of Misha's head, Jared goes to placate his friend.
It's a good thing Jared already studied his flashcards for about a hundred hours, because he's seriously distracted during the quiz, wondering what Misha wants with Jensen. Not that he thinks Jensen would cheat. Jensen would never do that, Jared's sure. Pretty sure. But Misha is a senior too, not a lowly sophomore like Jared, and though he's only been at their school a few months, he's already a big mucky-muck on the debate team, he's got the lead in the spring play, and he's had his poetry published in the school paper. Plus he's kind of hot, in a sort of intense and nerdy kind of way. He's got a lot going for him, is all Jared's saying. And he's got second and forth periods with Jensen, so why does he need to be putting notes in Jensen's locker?
Fourth period, just before lunch, Jared has chemistry. They're doing a lab today, so he is distracted at least a little by the desire not to burn his fingers or stain his favorite shirt, but as soon as the teacher tells them to clean up their stations, Jared is back to wondering where Jensen was and what Misha wants with him. As soon as the bell rings he practically runs out to the parking lot to meet Jensen at his car as usual.
Then he remembers that he doesn't want to look like a desperate puppy—which is what his big brother is always calling him whenever he's waiting for Jensen to call or come over—so he slows to what he hopes looks like a casual saunter. Jensen isn't there yet, which makes Jared feel the first flutters of panic, before he reminds himself that Jensen's class is all the way on the other end of campus and so he's almost never here before Jared anyway.
Then he sees Jensen walking towards him, talking to Misha. Great. A few rows in, Misha claps Jensen on the shoulder and angles right, towards the center of the lot. Only then does Jensen notice Jared and lift his hand in a wave.
Jared is getting a good sulk on, but it's derailed somewhat by Jensen running the last few yards and launching himself at Jared, knocking him into the side of the truck.
"I missed you," Jensen says and kisses Jared full on the lips, not even checking to make sure none of the school assholes are watching.
"I missed you too," Jared says, only it comes out, "What did Misha Collins want?" which, if Jensen's expression is anything to go by, doesn't sound like quite the same thing.
Jensen lets go his hold on Jared's neck and steps back, reaching into his pocket for his keys so he can open the door. He climbs in, sliding across the bench seat to make room for Jared like always, but he's not smiling anymore.
As he climbs in the truck, Jared's mouth continues unbidden. "I saw him putting a note in your locker when you weren't there between second and third. Where were you anyway?" And, nope, that doesn't sound like I missed you too either. Jared lifts his hand to his mouth and pinches his lips shut before he can say anything else.
"Seriously?" Jensen says, one hand fisted on the steering wheel and the other gesturing crossly. "Seriously?"
"No?" Jared tries. Even he will admit he doesn't sound very convincing.
"You know he's in my calc class, right?"
It was probably a rhetorical question, but Jared answers, "Yeah," anyway. He still wants to know where Jensen was. They always meet between second and third. Always. He's not going to just drop it. "And he's in your English class. So why does he need to be leaving you little notes after second period? He'd just seen you and he was going to see you again in an hour."
"Jesus, Jared, paranoid much?" Jensen doesn't get mad very often, but when he does the muscles in his jaw jump. Jared's not used to seeing them jump at him.
Taking a deep breath, Jensen turns and looks him in the eye, like he's making sure Jared's listening because he's only going to say this once. Jared's dad does the same thing. "I got called to the office at the end of class," Jensen says. "I dropped a page of my physics homework and didn't notice. Misha brought it by my locker to give it back, and when I wasn't there, he just stuffed it inside so I might get it before I was supposed to be turning it in."
"Oh," Jared says. He feels a little stupid.
"Besides, a) I'm in love with you, and b) Misha is pretty much engaged to his girlfriend from his old school. They have plans to go to college together and everything."
Correction. Jared feels kind of a lot stupid. "Sorry," he says, and slides a hand across the seat to squeeze Jensen's thigh, asking for forgiveness.
Giving Jared a fond half-smile, Jensen shakes his head. "I know it will come as a huge shock, Jared, but not everyone wants my pretty little ass."
It makes Jared laugh; he loves teasing Jensen about his pretty ass. "They do," he corrects. "But only I get to have it."
He hauls Jensen across the seat and practically into his lap. Jensen helps, hooking his legs over Jared's near knee and wrapping his arms around Jared's shoulders.
"And these lips," Jared says, and kisses them. "Mine too." He kisses them again, hungrily, like it's been days since they last did this and not just the hours since Jensen came to pick him up for school.
When Jensen draws back to catch his breath, Jared kisses along his jaw, down his neck, tasting, licking. When he gets to his favorite spot just where neck turns to shoulder, Jared bites and sucks, loving how Jensen arches into him and moans, but loving too that it's going to leave a mark. That Misha will be reminded that Jensen is taken.
Because girlfriend or not, Jared has seen the way the guy looks at Jensen. Misha wants that pretty little ass, no question.
