What are Firefox LJ add-ons?!?!

There are add-ons to Firefox so that you can get updates on your Friends page, etc. in the corner of your browser, for instance. There are also things like comment unfolders, and content replacement for large items such as youtube vids and picspams.

they enable you to, with one right-click (and one left click) view any page in your style or 'light' style (which is black on white) and also TO UNFOLD ALL THE COMMENTS ON A PAGE AT ONCE.

which made me so happy i nearly fainted when I discovered it.

I love your journal layout (especially the tree), but I put almost everything into ?format=light these days. The only thing about your layout that makes it hard for me to read is the font -- I like sans-serif fonts for screen reading. I don't have palatino, so I think it comes out in Garamond - which is one of my favorite print fonts, but screen-reading the little serifs just make it difficult.

The comments are a bit dicey because the body is always black text on medium green, but what I figure about styles is, as long as it's not just an eye-bleeding scheme (like the orange on vivid red I saw once), styles should be what the journal owner likes and the reader can go with that or use ?style=might or ?format=light or what have you.

that's very useful and interesting information! THANK YOU! I can't stand sans-serif fonts any more, though up til a few years ago I much preferred them. Though this is based on paper reading. I hadn't thought about having a different opinion on screen reading. I do agree that sans-serif is easier on screen than paper. I also didn't realize some people didn't have palatino.

I do pretty much agree that people should have what they want and the reader can change if they desire, but I do like to have it as readable as possible for people who don't know how to do style=mine or light. And I do like to see people's custom styles, so long as they aren't eyebleeding. Often people have awesome headers and stuff though which is part of the fun of LJ for me.

Yours is easy to read and look at, as well as very interesting, but I always prefer the standard LJ default bc my eyesight isn't that great, and colors make it worse.

I have LJ append ?style=mine to every link I click on, so I don't have to view anybody else's layout, so ... do whatever you want! People who don't like it can do what I do. :D

I seriously nearly had a spontaneous O when I realized that there was a way to unfold all the comments on a page. Especially for when you're reading a meta post or something and want to see what everyone's said, but sometimes I like to nosey around other comments as well :D

I filled out the poll, though technical stuff makes my head hurt.

So for clarity - I really like your journal layout the way I've been seeing it since we friended, whatever that is! The colours are really relaxing and I've never noticed the font which would suggest that it isn't confusing my brain in the slightest.

What is this Firefox add-on that unfolds all comments? If there was a link, I missed it. LJ now has the "expand" option (LONG time coming) which is nice but ::cries:: it doesn't unfold *all* comments on a page at once, which would be FABULOUS.

I picked that I only like custom view if it's easy to read because ... I always like to see people's journals in the style they have set up. That would be my preference. But if I get there and find out 1) it's impossible to read (I have a friend who was using something like black text on a dark brown background for awhile ... WTF) or 2) the format goes all wonky in my browser, like some custom styles that work in IE but not Firefox, or 3) they have a lot of graphics in the design that take forever to load on my home dial-up ... then I will stop the load, append ?format=light and start over.

There are some journals/comms that are set up to automatically append ?format=light or ?style=mine to every link they point to (inside LJ). With those I almost always remove that part because I want to know what the other journals are actually set up to look like. (Depending what comes up, I may set it right back.)

I like your journal setup, although sometimes the header takes awhile to load and occasionally it's difficult to read some of the text on the green background.

It's the first dl on the list here (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search?q=live+journal&cat=all) it puts a little series of symbols at the bottom right of the browser window, and they do various things, but the list of things that you can do by right clicking on the pencil is the best thing. Unfold all comments, put the pages in light or my style, do all sorts of other things I've not tried. :D

Generally speaking I am happy looking at custom layouts - it's interesting to see what people have - but only when it's not something eye-mangling. I find it very hard to read pale text on black, so I'll use style=mine for those.
