Heroes fans

To the USA speed or non-spoiler-phobe Heroes fans on my f'list. Especially those of you who find the way Characters of Colour, girls/women, and minorities in general are portrayed frustrating. Please, go here to [livejournal.com profile] technosage's journal and read her post outlining and asking for suggestions as to what we might do about those frustrations. We are lucky in having someone in charge of the show who has shown he actually listens to fans, and we have a window of opportunity with the writers strike, and we really need to take advantage of those things.

I will add that there aren't specific spoilers in this post for series 2, but as it is in the second series that a lot of the frustrations have been crystallized, discussion will probably be spoilery.

I just wish people could simply enjoy a show. I don't think about race or gender AT ALL when I watch TV. Unless I'm watching a documentary, lol, ya know? Insane to get so worked up over things that just don't matter at the end of the day. But that post was very beautifully worded. She appears to know what she's talking about, unlike a lot of people on LJ.

[livejournal.com profile] technosage is amazing. She is so articulate and intellectual and meta about things that sometimes she makes me feel positively plebeian. Historically I haven't thought much about politics at all when watching TV, but when I started caring a lot how queer characters were portrayed, I started thinking more about how women and other people not straight/white/male were portrayed too. And I do think it matters especially in shows like Heroes where there are lots of CoCs. Not portraying other races/ethnicities is one thing. Portraying them badly and in a rather alarmingly false and stereotypical manner, especially when you're exporting your show to Europe and making Europeans think that everyone in the US believes that Latin America is a single uniform country (for example) is not so good.

*climbs off soapbox*

But me? I'm frustrated with myself because I've been trying to write an essay all day and I've done lots of not essay stuff and little essay stuff. But I went out for a walk around the lake with my friend and I read porn and I sorted DVDs and I read background for the essay. So ... yeah. Still haven't written it though.

I'm sorry, honey. I hate getting blocked - I haven't written a damned thing in 2 weeks (and I haven't touched on my book in about 4 months, lol), so I feel your pain.

It's gorgeous weather. I have decided that fall is my fave season here. (though I haven't seen spring in CA in like... fuck, 11 years, so I might change my mind when spring rolls around. *waits for wildflowers*

It's about 60 and sunny but with crisp air. Perfect for walking. And it's gotten so I could put the heating on or could sit with a blanket over my legs like an old woman. Old woman is cheaper, so i've been going that route. *g*

but no snow. which means no pretty snow, but more importantly, no cold, wet, needing to be shoveled snow.

and there will be Bones when my essay is done. And I watched (or had on in the room while I did other things) Red Sky two more times this morning cos there is being Bela/Dean Sam/Dean porn and I had to check canon. *pets pron*

Do you know - no, you don't, I hate when people start off like that - that I love to shovel snow? LOL - I ESPECIALLY love doing it when I'm pregnant. All three pregnancies, I was about 8 months along when snowstorms hit, and I ITCHED to shovel snow, but I was always caught within 5 minutes and ordered inside.
