I'm not doing market research, I promise. I had a strange dream last night, and it has led to me being curious about what the people on my flist think of clothes. So, I made a poll.

It's longer than I thought, so it's under

[Poll #944967]
Mood:: 'odd' odd

Is it a bad thing that I had to use my fingers to count the shoes...?

I think it's probably a good thing that you didn't need more than your fingers to do so. Surely? *g*

just my fingers, but only when I remembered to divide by two...

So it would seem that while I adore my jeans and comfortable flats there's an elegant red carpet maiden trying to break loose.

Maybe if I invested more money in clothes rather than cds or the old unlimited pass?

Go red carpet girl! It's possible that you could fix that by buying fewer CDs, or giving up the unlimited pass, but would that really make you happy? *g*

Hmmmmm

Shiny film star wardrobe (with no social life or glam parties to go to)

VS

Unlimited Pass (seeing every single film at my local cineworld)

No contest really *picks dirt off week old jeans*

I own somewhere around 35 pairs of shoes.

I know it doesn't help your poll, but I'm quite proud :D

That totally helps my poll! See? these things I want to know. (dont' ask why. I'm not even sure why)

I used to have between 20-30 pairs of shoes but I never wore them so I took them all to work and told people to take what they wanted. so they did. And now it's strange seeing people wearing my shoes with their clothes. But that's better than moving all those shoes to California!

I was asking people about their aunts and uncles last week for no reason. I get interested in random things too.

That was awesomely selfless of you; I'm not sure that I could do that!

I didn't get rid of anything I'd worn in the last 12 months. I now have 4 pairs of shoes.

And the prospect of paying to ship them... eeep

I generally go barefoot at home, and wear a t-shirt and shorts (or trousers), with a cardigan if it's cold.

I don't "do" fashion, unless what I like happens to be in fashion, and I've learnt to buy at least two of something I like because it will probably be 20 years before it comes back in fashion again XD

I remember my mother once telling me I should wear more aqua. I replied that aqua wasn't in that season. She was most scornful that I was such a slave to fashion. That wasn't it at all! (I'm so not.) but where was I supposed to find all these aqua clothes when the shops were filled with brown and grey?

I ended up checking "other" for most of those questions. To me, comfort and sexiness are both a state of mind. (Whether or not anyone else finds me attractive is another thing entirely. I can only control my presentation, not their perception of it.) It's no one style or item that imbues me with confidence. Given the right mood (and the right tunes from the MP3 player in my ears), I can be glamourous in a dress and jacket, sassy in a skirt and sweater, playful in denim---anything is possible with the right accessories....

Ah. I have one item of clothing/outfit that I feel sexiest in at any given time. At the moment it's a pair of jeans and a t-shirt/sweater combo. If I need confidence, out it trots. I usually have something that I feel good in, but rarely two things at once. This is the kind of stuff I want to know, so thank you for playing *g*

If I pointed out that Goodwill is a 'charity shop' would you have had a different answer than 'other' or does it just seem like it from your posts? *g*

posted by [identity profile] vanillafluffy.livejournal.com at 03:04pm on 13/03/2007
It just seems like it. I've been going clothes-mad for a while now, and although Goodwill has the proximity, I've also resorted to eBay, several on-line boutiques (the January clearance sales were excellant!), one direct transaction with a gal at [livejournal.com profile] fatshionista, donations from friends, and oh yeah, Wal*Mart....

I miss the goodwill. the tiny charity shops here are nothing like that vast expanse of endless items of clothing, gems mixed in with the chaff.

Not for much longer though---aren't you returning to the States soon? From what [livejournal.com profile] karaokegal tells me, the thift stores in SF are a veritable Mecca of marvels....

Yes, though I will always prefer the one in the suburbs where I grew up I think. They haven't cottoned on yet to the fact that they can charge ten times as much if somehting might be 'vintage'. Unlike the SF stores...

I tend to roll my eyes when disco polyester gets called "vintage"....

Hmmm, very interesting.

I'm afraid I am probably the most casual person on there, although I did answer lingerie for one question.

I do have lots and lots of shoes but because I have funny shaped feet it's very difficult for me to find a pair that don't cripple me, so most of them are gathering dust, completely unworn. I can't stop buying them though....

I doubt you are the most casual person on my flist, honey. You always look very stylish.

My mom has the same problem, and she always complains that she was forty before she realised there was no point buying shoes that didn't feel like heaven in the shop cos they weren't ever going to be comfortable.

You know, I like to wear t-shirt and shorts in bed but would it be so hard for a company to make a decent set that didn't involve teddy bears or winnie the pooh or fucking Snoopy? I'm 27 not 7!! I want to look vaguely attractive to my other half whilst in bed, and not make him think of his niece, which would be very very wrong.

What a fun poll! *g*

I'm glad you had fun with the poll. I was sure everyone was going to take one look and run away, thinking I'd completely lost my mind.

You could always buy boxers and plain t-shirts. Or shop in America. they seem much more into pjs of the not flannel old man's kind there.

Definately less of the associating you with his niece! *g*

Hee! I love this poll, but found it just impossible to answer coherently. It depends how I feel, what day it is and what climate I'm living in that determines what works best in almost all categories. I also go through long periods of buying no clothes/shoes at all, and then sudden bursts of shopping when I realise I never have anything to wear *g*. I can say that the shoes I actually wear live in the equivalent of a shoe rack (actually a big box in the front entryway) though.

I should have put a rider... Today, how do you feel about your clothes?

I always tend to go through phases, having one outfit that I feel extra good about, then either it will get stained or I'll go off it or I'll find something better...

I'm so glad you didn't just think me insane though!

I don't go to many things which warrant dressing up, but when I do I feel sexiest in a beautifully tailored suit, especially one with a frock coat style jacket. (I have a black velvet suit which has serviced me well over the years!)

There's a store in Melbourne called Anton's which has the most divine suits for women. It's all very Marlene Dietrich/Katherine Hepburn, I see things there I don't see anywhere else. Like their combo shirts/corsets, which make you feel like you are being hugged when you wear them.

I don't own a single Anton's item, because they are out of my league, price wise, but everytime I go in for a browse, the lovely sales assistant always insists I try things on! (And she never gets cross that I don't buy anything.)

Anton's sounds like a wonderful shop! Not often you get people who are keen for you to try on, even knowing that you probably won't buy anything. I hope that some day you get to buy an Anton's outfit!

Hee, me too!

It's the kind of place where if you suddenly wanted to buy a smoking jacket and fez, well, they'd have it in stock.
