Firefly Fandom Meme.
Number of times you’ve seen the whole series (to your best estimate)
I know I've watched it all in one sitting twice. I've probably watched all the episodes sequentially over a period of days another three or four times and over a period of weeks, a further two or three times. I've watched select episodes between 3 and 5 times on top of that.
Number of times you’ve seen the movie
Four at the cinema, four on DVD without commentary, twice with commentary.
Favorite character (and why, if you want)
That's like asking me to choose between children. I love River because she is the whole crew in microcosm, including the way sometimes they can't get along and they tear at each other, and the way that sometimes they work as a perfectly oiled machine, the whole being more than the sum of its parts. And she can stand in front of a man with her back to him and kick him in the back of the head. Seriously. It's amazing.
I love Kaylee because she's most like me. An almost painful mix of self-conscious and self-assured, not intimidated by Mal's gruffness, in awe of beauty, but able to befriend it anyway, always concerned with being kind. She is the heart of the ship.
I love Zoe because she uses her brain and her instincts and a gun with equal aplomb, and her back, have you seen her back? And the bit just below her back, where it joins on to her legs…
I love Mal because he's funny and stubborn and gruff and he loves his ship and his crew and he loves the very best way he knows how. He speaks his mind. Unless his mind is on love. Then he runs you a line of bullshit.
I love Wash because he's love. He loves to fly and he loves this amazing woman and he allows that to define him but not limit him. He's wickedly funny, he has dinosaurs on his console, he's noble and quick and clever but doesn't need to be what he's not, except when he worries about the woman he loves.
Least favorite character (and why, if you want)
So that leaves Inara, Simon, Jayne and Book. I do like them all very much, and the show would be a lesser programme without each of them. But they are not on my favourites list.
Favorite episode (and why, if you want)
Out of Gas
I think it's one of the best pieces of televisual film-making I've ever seen. I love all the stories it tells of the crew and how they came to be together, Kaylee's story most particularly, and it still awes me every time I see it.
Least favorite episode (and why, if you want)
Heart of Gold
Relative to the others it bores me. The whole Mal/Inara thing is not my favourite aspect of the show.
Favorite quote
Again with the choosing between children. Probably if pressed, "I'll be in my bunk." for the simplicity and yet depth of meaning that comes across. Plus, it's endlessly quotable.
Favorite scene
Either the scene between Mal and Wash in the infirmary in Out of Gas or the storming of Nishka's station in War Stories
Your opinion of the movie: love it, shove it, or mixed feelings
Love it.
Favorite canon pairing
Zoe/Wash. Probably my only Het OTP other than Buffy/Spike, and that's just for the kinky sex.
Favorite non-canon pairing
Kaylee/Inara. Not explicitly canon anyway. Though hairbrushing can be sex if you do it right.
