I got the colour put in my tattoo yesterday, and I love it SO MUCH. I'd gotten so used to it in black and white in the last two weeks, that I wasn't sure how I was going to feel, but it's gorgeous, and I cannot wait for it to heal. In a month or so I can go back and get touch-ups of anything that needs more ink, but for now I can't stop grinning at how brilliantly Anne realized my design.

and thank goodness I had

miss_begonia with me and she was willing to drive on the way back to mine to watch 8 (the play), because it hurt A LOT and I was high as a kite by the end. I possibly should have left longer than 16 days between appointments.

This is my first colour tatt! though I am thinking of getting some California poppies in the one on my back. She does a great job with the shading :D

That is gorgeous! I adore bird-of-paradise flowers, so I have to say a design that combines one with writing is inspired XD

I've always had a deep connection with the bird of paradise flower, and obviously writing is hugely important to me, and I wanted to combine them somehow. :D

What an awesome image. Did you create it or see something like it somewhere? The color is glorious.

Thank you! I desperately wanted a bird of paradise flower that transformed into a pen dipping into a bottle of ink, but didn't have an image of what that looked like. The artist I went to (Anne Williams at Mermaids Tattoo in SF) was brilliant, though, and she drew the design based on my ramblings, and it's PERFECT. And I love love love what she did with the colour.

The flowering pen is glorious and the inkwell wonderfully solid. What garden zone are you in, that you have purple-foliage tradescantia blithely growing? It's a houseplant everywhere I've lived. "Paradise News"?

I live in N. California. I had no idea what that plant it--all the plants are my landlords'--but I do love it!

I just want to keep looking at it. The shaaaading. All those greens in the pen/stem! AMAZING.

I can't stop staring. I had to put on a sweater, because it got super cold after the sun went down, but I keep pulling up the sleeve to stare more :D
