So, that happened.

The first thing I said when the movie was over was, "What the ever-loving fuck was that?"

Becka couldn't answer me. We talked about the movie for the next forty-five minutes, and we never came up with an answer. It was kind of awful and very very pretty, and completely inexplicable.

Any metaphor or symbolism that should have been there--and it's a werewolf movie, there should have been metaphor oozing out of its every frame--had been totally obliterated somewhere in passage from page to screen. It seemed a lot like the editor had never had a single conversation with the director, who had never seen the original script, and maybe had only gotten half the re-writes. Which were quite possibly done by a large number of people who had also never spoken to each other.

We think it might have been improved by taking out everything to do with Gary Oldman and his cohort, but we're not sure. We think it possibly had a point at some stage but we're not sure about that, either.

We are quite certain that Amanda Seyfried is STUNNINGLY gorgeous, and that Becka and I have very different taste in boys. And the red-fabric budget for that movie was HUGE.

We would more than welcome any opinions on what the hell was going on there.

Dammit, it looks so visually stunning from the shorts! Guess I'll give it a miss, sigh.

It is visually stunning. And if you go in looking for design features, and not hoping for a great werewolf story, you might not even be disappointed. I think the thing was that they spent so much time and energy making it look good that they forgot everything else.

Yeah, nah. I like a little substance with my style. *g*

Oh, I really wanted to see this. I love fairy tale re-tellings...Though I had been worried it would have a Twilight-esque feel to it...I might just wait until it comes out on DVD then.

It definitely didn't have the same kind of horrifying-to-me messages about male/female relationships that I saw in twilight, but I also never laughed, and twilight was so dire it made me laugh until I cried several times. This really was just like WTF from start to finish.

Did Michael Shanks get much screen time? I'm basing my decision on when to see this on that...lol

Um... I had no idea who Michael shanks was and so I IMDBd him, and that didn't help at all. I didn't recognize the character name, and his picture didn't look like anyone I recognized from the movie. He could have been in it lots, and just scruffy and covered in mud, but idk. So I'm not helpful at all :(

Hmmmm. I was planning on seeing this. Do you regret seeing it? Or was it just not a warewolf story like you expected?

Well it wasn't really ANY story, IMO, was the problem. There was a ton of super clunky exposition that didn't really explain anything, and a bunch of scenes, most of which were really visually interesting, but it was just a big mess. I don't know that I regret seeing it, but I resent that I saw that but missed true grit and tron and the fighter and the eagle.

I don't want to put you off because you might love it. But I was left utterly perplexed by what they all put on the screen.

I wanted it to be good. Amanda has the most stunning face in it. But we really could not figure out what they were trying to do or say.
