It's cloudy here tonight and I cannot see the moon. But I can remember so very clearly the lunar eclipse I saw when I was sixteen, at summer camp, far enough away from "civilization" that we could see the Milky Way. I sat with a boy named Karl, with whom I had a lovely friendship without an ounce of UST on either side, so that there was no awkwardness as we cuddled, his arms around me and mine wrapped around his arms. It looked like someone was pulling a giant burlap sack over the moon, turning it ruddy rather than black, and we sat for hours, watching, and talking about his parents' divorce and my ex, and a girl he thought he'd loved but whom he had decided he was just crushing on, and camp, and life, and the trip to Nicaragua we'd been on earlier in the year, and whatever epic it is that sixteen year olds talk about. We watched the moon go dark and then watched it go light again, both with and not with all the other kids from camp who were dotted around the field we were all sitting in.

Now I'm watching and not watching the lunar eclipse on a ustream on the internet, with and not with people on twitter. Funnily enough, it's not the same. But it's bringing back happy memories, and I'm gonna be grateful for that :D

We can't see it here, either, just a pinkish tinge to the overcast sky and ominous darkness on the fringes of the horizon between houses, but it's still magical, knowing it's happening up there somewhere, and it's nice to share it with you, even if it's not quite the same.

*hugs* and Yule blessings to you, my friend!

Couldn't see the eclipse over here, because the totality was after moonset. But hey, I got to see a total sun eclipse in my lifetime, hard to top that. And I've seen a nice moon eclipse a few years back... although not enriched with the kind of memories you had. But for an astronomy nerd and moon lover like me, it's always a cool event.
And I found a rainbow-y moon pic. :-))

I got to see the solar eclipse in England (not totally total, but near enough) back in... whenever that was several years ago. it was amazing. And the lunar eclipse there too, actually, though apparently the experience wasn't as memorable as my teenage one :D

that icon is gorgeous!!!!
