MONTPELIER, Vt. – Vermont has become the fourth state to legalize gay marriage — and the first to do so with a legislature's vote.
The Legislature voted Tuesday to override Gov. Jim Douglas' veto of a bill allowing gays and lesbians to marry. The vote was 23-5 to override in the state Senate and 100-49 to override in the House.

ETA and now Washington DC, too, with the recognizing marriages from outside the district. \o/

(Of course, anyone want to bet how long it takes some conservative pundit to use the phrase "domino effect"?)

I AM SO EXCITED!
and also, I saw you the other night at CCA, but got ridiculously too shy to come and introduce myself. For which I apologise, because it would have been awesome to actually say HI, and to not be a lame-o stalker

But Vermont is fantastic, and it may prove persuasive. I hope it does, so, so much.
I didn't even know you were there! That's so awesome! Next time we are somewhere together, you should come say hi!

I was sitting two rows behind you, so couldn't help but overhear all the discussion about who seats were being saved for, and the squeals of greetings, so I figured it was you. But I will try to do better next time about actually saying, hi!

We were kind of loud, I think. Whoops! But yeah, next time come over and say hello if you want.

Sorry to butt in... from what I've read it's looking like that will be the case OR that the courts will find a legal loop hole to call for a do over. The argument that the change constituted a "revision" to the state constitution, thus requiring a two-thirds vote from the legislature prior to being put forth to voters, is a weak one at best. And as you mentioned, it is such a narrow legal question being decided that the outlook isn't looking very optimistic. That said, the chances of the Prop 8 being made retroactive are slim to none.
Ugh, didn't mean to be such a downer amongst so much happier news. PLEASE JUST IGNORE ME *facepalm*

Btw, J&J should be glad they live as roommates in Vancouver, and not in Finland.
You see, as far as the law's concerned, if two (unrelated, of age, etc.) persons share an apartment over here, they're a couple unless they prove that they're not. No matter the gender.
