Books I read in June : comments [rivers

the pony play stuff was really interesting, and the way it was used in talking about learning your kinks was especially so. it was definitely one of those books I liked more after I finished it than while I was reading it. which is pretty backwards for me. usually i like things less in retrospect, though there are definite exceptions I can think of. Pain Slut is definitely my favorite of the four books, but is probably the one I can see not being some people's thing the most (though 24/7 probably takes that crown if not just looking at the kink aspects).

I cannot wait for Fast Connection! GIVE IT TO ME. three more days of work and then the weekend and then it will be mine! and also the next one in the plumber series. I'm excited for that too :D

So, taking in considerating that I'm already disliking Pain Slut for ~reasons~ AND that I can't translate/process pain play in prose mode in my mind, would it be possible for me to skip that book and go from Manties in a Twist to 24/7? Like, without missing out on anything that would be considered important to the overall enjoyment of the series? FWIW, I'm NOT a fan of hatereading (having done so only when it relates to the two challenges I've been doing) because I hate pushing myself to read something I'm getting 0 enjoyment from.

I'm less intrigued with 24/7 than I am with Manties in a Twist (there's legit A LOT about that book that's pinging me). From what I now about 24/7, it's less M/M/F (which is a genre I love and in which it's really hard to find good books about) as well as less romance-y than all the previous novels in the series. But, at the same time, I trust J.A. Rock with that book.

I can't think of anything particularly vital that happens in pain play that would be confusing in the future books. There's a little bit of family stuff, and that kind of thing, and the introduction of a new character. But I also read all those books kind of in a row, so I can't guarantee it. If it's not working it will only get worse tho. And I'm happy to fill you in on details.

Hmm, I see. TBH, I'm at that point where I want to just read Manties in a Twist and forget about books 1, 2, and 4.

There's legit nothing about book 1's premise that makes me go "oooh", I have some legit srs bizness problems with some things about book 2, and, actually, book 4's OK (but, again, not super dazzling to me). *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighs*

The wonky part is that I do have a copy of the Subs Club (which I intend to read in August?). Funnily enough, I'm generally a fan of J.A. Rock's books (been a fan since she first started publishing M/M stuff in 2012) and have either read them or have them in my TBR list already...except for the The Subs Club series (not counting the first book).

In short, there's a lot about this specific series that provokes weirdly negative feelings because I'm not into it as much as I think I should be (Book 3, aside). #ImtheworstMMreaderIguess :(

This is definitely a series that I would not recommend to everyone. I really really love BDSM and pain play and power-play, and loved the series. But they are not without triggers, and kinks that lots of people DNW.

I don't mind the potentially-triggery BDSM. Especially when it's by J.A. Rock (her books tend to be darker and/or more realistic than what a lot of people are accustomed). My apathy toward pain play in books aside, I'm sure there isn't much I don't think I couldn't deal with.

Anyhoo, I've bitched and moaned about this book series enough. You'll be the first one to know if/when I get around to reading it (or them.) /o\
