caves to peer... um... well. yes. the wincon report.

Thursday
Got up and fretted about what time to leave for the airport. Changed my mind about thirty times and then ended up thinking I had more time than I did. Packed computer last, remembering fancy laptop fan for reasons I STILL don't understand.

Took MUNI to BART. As I was getting on BART I realized that while I had my laptop fan, I DID NOT HAVE MY LAPTOP'S POWER CORD. I considered going back for it but didn't want to miss my plane. It turned out I was over an hour early to the airport (not an hour before my flight, but an hour before I needed to be there to be in plenty of time for it), but whatever. I had a notebook and would have fangirls.

Sitting on the plane, listening to [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c's fantastic sam-and-dean-speak-shakespeare fic read by the awesome [livejournal.com profile] sadcypress, I looked up to see that the girl in front of me was watching Sam and Dean in Sin City. I was somewhat disconcerted by how much the boys having sex on a casting dressing room couch in my ears were not the boys I could see on the screen, but was convinced I was sitting behind someone going to the con. When I mentioned that I'd noticed her watching as we got up to file out of the plane though, it turned out that she was new to the show, watching only because her brother loaned her the DVDs. I did not mention buttsex. (making it one of the few buttsex-free conversations of the weekend.)

Got off the plane and waited for [livejournal.com profile] runedgirl (both of them) to come get me at the airport. Kat's husband, god alone knows how, got us back to Kat's house in time for SHOW. With five minutes to spare. It was my first time ever of watching an episode for the first time with another person. We laughed so hard we almost cried. I am gutted that my DVR didn't record it, because I really want to see it again on the big screen. iTouch isn't the same. After Show we ate homemade pizza (omg SO GOOD) and talked about Show and boys and fannish things, and I used my scant battery supply to read a little of my flist and send some emails. Then, even though it was super late already for the two east coast girls, we watched a movie and had more fannish squee before finally falling into bed at 2am. I couldn't sleep so I wrote fic until nearly three when I finally succumbed.

Friday
Next morning Kat was gone at work and her husband fed Lyns and me bacon and homemade English muffins and then she and I sat and read the Jared-opens-his-mouth wank and discussed srs fandom bzniss and the psychology of slash and fic and porn and writing and all sorts of things until we started chomping at the bit to get to Wincon while we waited for Kat to get home from work. Finally the poor woman got home and ate and we got on the road. We got to the hotel at about 2:20, got our Wincon bags and went and watched the second half of the episode, laughing again at all the hilarious bits. After that I checked in to my room and we went down to the restaurant to get something to eat. Except there was no one there to take our order, so after Lyns made a tin hat out of her tin hat kit she got way back when she saw Signs, we went back to the concourse and bought raffle tickets, chatted with the lovely ladies at the registration table, and I made a tin crown while we waited for the RPS panel.

Panel was good, tin hat parade was even better, and I came to realize that I fangirl [livejournal.com profile] missyjack even harder in person than online *g* after that was the vid show, which was FANTASTIC. So many great vids, and the opportunity to tell [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c that she was insane to be nervous (though I don't think she believed me, crazy woman).

After that there was alcohol at the Roadhouse, pizza in [livejournal.com profile] missyjack's room, squee, and karaoke. I sang at one point, with a bunch of other people, but I don't actually remember what it was. I had a pink cocktail that was not called a mattress. Lyns won the grand raffle prize, all three seasons of SPN on DVD, and more singing happened. I slid money into [livejournal.com profile] missyjack's back pocket. [livejournal.com profile] drvsillaCartman sang Sail Away and I nearly fell off my chair. There were chocolate chip cookies. I got up the nerve to hug [livejournal.com profile] estei (who I sadly never actually got to sit down and talk to) but was too shy to hug [livejournal.com profile] girlguidejones though I did laugh at her zombies and got the nerve up the next day. I might have told someone I wanted to sex her outfit, but I might have just told that part to Lyns (or someone else) and simply admired it. I got tired way too early and went to bed at 11:30 or so. Alone, as my roommate wasn't to arrive until Saturday.

Saturday
I set the alarm for 8:40 and managed to get down to breakfast by twenty past 9 or so, where I was greeted by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] wendy who made my morning by complimenting my tattoo and outfit all at once. I was kind of in a fog while eating and failed to either introduce myself or take note of the people I was dining with, but I did manage to add myself to [livejournal.com profile] coiledsoul's (I think, seriously, brain=failboat) breakfast ticket because the hotel had failed to give me any when I checked in. After eating I went and accosted [livejournal.com profile] deirdre_c and attached myself to her laptop via my iTouch charger cord. That meant I got to stalk her and [livejournal.com profile] gekizetsu and [livejournal.com profile] missyjack and [livejournal.com profile] grey_light and [livejournal.com profile] drvsilla upstairs where they all proceeded to kill me with their brilliant. Seriously. my ribs and jaw were aching with laughing and i nearly fell off the bed onto my head at two separate points. Groupwriting badfic? BEST FUN EVER. When the fic was written and my iPod was charged, we toddled downstairs and I hooked up with [livejournal.com profile] runedgirl again and watched [livejournal.com profile] thenyxie make the plastic Winchesters do naughty things while [livejournal.com profile] fannishliss's awesome sockpuppet Castiel look on in horror. There was talking to [livejournal.com profile] mickeym and [livejournal.com profile] azephirin and [livejournal.com profile] lazy_daze and [livejournal.com profile] balefully and [livejournal.com profile] fannishliss and other people too, and listening to badfic that made my cheeks hurt and my ribs ache again (and scarred me with tentacles and [livejournal.com profile] balefully with mpreg) and [livejournal.com profile] missyjack was interrupted by non-fangirl opening the door while in the midst of saying "man period" and something about slippery turgid cocks, which was both horrifying and hilarious. That was followed by more talking, by the arrival of my roommate [livejournal.com profile] msliz4857 and the decision to go out to dinner. Twelve of us went to Ruby Tuesdays where we squeezed around a table meant for 9, grinned at our waiter and tried not to talk about buttsex too loudly. [livejournal.com profile] mickym's son was a REALLY good sport and I managed to avoid elbowing [livejournal.com profile] balefully. I ate chicken piccatta (this is mildly germane).

Dinner was followed by more Roadhouse. Roadhouse, or possibly dinner, was preceded by watching BUABS in our room. Does anyone remember? The Roadhouse definitely had [livejournal.com profile] chickyoops offering rehymenation in the form of cherrys in my Devil's Trap. There was chocolate, and a baby. I didn't want to watch Metamorphosis again and it didn't work anyway, so msliz and I went down to the lobby and had fangirly fun with the badfic crowd and other awesome peeps. Then we went to sleep.

Sunday
Breakfast again, and I think that was the day we ate with [livejournal.com profile] fannishliss? oh, days, why do you escape me so quickly? Once again I was up in [livejournal.com profile] missyjack's room (this time getting my Australian yummies) when [livejournal.com profile] runedgirl arrived, but then we went down and hung out in concourse D for a while, where I finally got up the nerve to say hi to [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster, [livejournal.com profile] nilchance and [livejournal.com profile] beanside, msliz bought a present for [livejournal.com profile] skyblue_reverie and we wrapped things up. Then it was out to the lobby again where we oogled the boys on [livejournal.com profile] balefully's laptop, talked slash, Jsquared and love, and then msliz, the runedgirls and I went to Ruby Tuesday's again, with [livejournal.com profile] lady_tiamet this time, and I ate Chicken Piccatta again. I am lame and once I find something I like, I have trouble getting something different. We had an awesome time and then went back to the hotel lobby where we glued ourselves to the sofa across from [livejournal.com profile] balefully and [livejournal.com profile] lazy_daze for the next six hours. Kat and Lyns had to leave, which made me very sadface and I think they should have quit their jobs so they could stay longer, especially given we have no firm plans of when we will next hook up. But there was more talk of boys, buttsex, slash, writing, fangirls, tin hats, show, and everything related, and this made me happy. Sam and Lucy seemed to survive my using their friendship to prove that Jared and Jensen are head over heels in love, my fangirling of their writing, and my pottymouth. clexmonkey survived my intense curiosity about the newsletter and the coding thereof, and [livejournal.com profile] waterofthemoon only smirked a little at me and Lucy intently discussing commas. Everyone else possibly scarred by my fangirlish glee kept it to themselves. I cannot tell you how much I cherish the time spent talking fic with fangirls. There is nothing more awesome.

I missed saying goodbye to far too many people, most importantly [livejournal.com profile] mickeym who I did not get to see NEARLY enough of. We really do need the fangirl compound. I did on at least two occasions get to smish [livejournal.com profile] arabella_hope but would have liked to talk to her more. I would have liked to talk to A LOT of people more. Like [livejournal.com profile] ciaan and [livejournal.com profile] girlguidejones. And not been too shy to smish several more peeps, including, but totally not limited to [livejournal.com profile] britomart_is.

Monday
I am SO SO GLAD I stayed until Monday. Seriously. I am definitely doing that again next year.

I discovered Monday morning that [livejournal.com profile] brynwulf and I were going to be on the same flight out. I sat with her and Sam and Lucy and [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon while they ate, and then went back upstairs to grab my bag. I caught the 11:30 shuttle, yet again missing out on saying goodbye to people like [livejournal.com profile] wendy and [livejournal.com profile] missyjack, and was at the airport very early. but [livejournal.com profile] brynwulf who tried to get the 12:00 shuttle was late, because it didn't leave anything like on time. Sadly neither of us was early enough to get on the plane in time to find two seats together, though that did mean I got more homework done on that leg of the journey than I would have otherwise. She and I said goodbye in Denver airport and I tried to come down from the weekend.

I was ETERNALLY grateful for my iTouch and the free wifi at Denver airport, and then finally got my flight to San Francisco. On which, sadly, my phone was fried. So I had to wait half an hour for my parents to come pick me up, after I accosted a total stranger and begged to use her phone to call them. I got home, cuddled Inigo and made love to communed with my laptop.

NOW I HAVE WITHDRAWAL

pee ess, I feel like complete crap and emailed in sick for class tonight. I feel bad, but not bad enough to drag myself in.

oh that sounds so much fun!! What Aussie stuff did you guys eat? :)
withdrawal from cons is so hard!

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
MORE FUN THAN SHOULD BE HUMANLY POSSIBLE. Seriously. and I got TIM TAMS. No better biscuit.

[identity profile] deirdre-c.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I can't remember if I told you this before, but:

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
you can never tell me enough times.

moar.

everyone is laughing at [livejournal.com profile] taskmaster69 and not taking her fic as srs bzsnz

This makes me even more jealous than I already was. I'm sick with it, I tell you. *pouts* Want fangirlz. Nowz.

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I just had NO IDEA how awesome it would actually be. nothing has ever been more fun i don't think. I'm booking my spot for next year the second the date is firmed up. You should have come!!!!!
chemm80: (DeanFuckery)

[personal profile] chemm80 2008-10-23 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
I probably could have, that's what kills me. I just have a lot going on this time of year, and the last year has been hell, so it kind of got away from me. I also didn't realize in time just what it was and how many people I really, really want to meet would be there. That's why I'm so bitter, right now, lol. I'm totally going to the next one, though, hell or high water. I hear it's in Denver, so that'll be easier for me anyway.

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
if it makes you feel any better, I found out about the Winchestercon in LA two weeks before it happened last year, and I could totally have gone if I had found out a bit earlier and not been so freaking scared. Though I know so many more people now that maybe it's best?
chemm80: (DeanFuckery)

[personal profile] chemm80 2008-10-23 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well, this is my problem, or disadvantage, or whatever. I didn't even know the online fandom existed until around the first of this year. That's another thing I'm bitter about, lol--how I missed out on two and a half years of fandom fun.

Oh man, sounds like you have the infamous con-crud. :( *makes you chicken soup* I really hope to see you next year.

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Con-crud or hormones and caffeine withdrawal. or all of the above. blik at any rate. I am already in my pjs and it's only six pm!

and barring unforseeable disasters, you will definitely see me next year. I cannot wait.

[identity profile] honeymull.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
"making it one of the few buttsex-free conversations of the weekend."

*giggles* If MY weekend doesn't have buttsex conversations in it, I count it a TOTAL LOSS. :D

I'm loving reading all these wincon reports - I am so, so thrilled you all had such a blast! Here's hoping I can make it next time. :)

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
there should ALWAYS be buttsex conversations in every weekend day.

I hope you can make it too! Denver '09! BE THERE!

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2008-10-23 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds like the best time EVER! I've never been to a SPN con, so I don't know what they're like, exactly, except by reports, but I am hazarding a comment here that it sounds like this fan-based con might just have been more fun than a more formal con with the stars and stuff. I suppose I'm speaking sacrilege. But I guess...for me, I love talking writing and slashing and characters and hearing from others who love the same characters I do, so this con sounds just *perfect*. Wow. I'm really sorry I wasn't able to be there. Is there going to be another one next year???

*hugs* to you again just for being you.

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
wincon was about ten million times better than Creation Con. fangirls are where it's at. Sure it was great to get to see Jared and Jensen and Eric in person and hear them speak, but it wasn't so much different from watching convids that it made up for how little time you get to spend with other fangirls.

Denver. Next October (probably). You MUST come if you possibly can. There is really honestly nothing in the whole world like it.

*clings*

[identity profile] wendy.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
There really is NOTHING better then talking with fangirls. And it was amazing to see you and talk to you and squish you! WHen I think of you at the con, I picture you on that lobby couch smiling huge and laughing loud. Good memory. :)

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Wendy, it's the best thing ever. EVER. I keep picturing you with your back to the window, grinning at all the squee. That and your smiling face at breakfast that first morning.

Part of me is still worrying I totally made a fool of myself, and part of me is just thinking we are all as foolish as each other and that is what makes it the best time in the world.

[identity profile] wendy.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
we are all as foolish as each other and that is what makes it the best time in the world.

*points* That one. I saw someone else say that she felt like herself for the first time at the con and I...I just need fangirls around me all the time. Is that too much to ask?!!?

[identity profile] tiffosis.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
sounds like you had a fantastic time!!!!

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I wish you could have come! Next year. Put in for vacation early!
poisontaster: (facepalm)

[personal profile] poisontaster 2008-10-23 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
It'll have commercials, but I can totally burn you a copy of Monster Movie from my TiVo, if you still want to try and get together some time. No fangirl should be without! :D

I am STILL facepalming that we're so close and have never hooked up.

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I would love to get together. I no longer have your phone number due to fried phone syndrome, but I still have email and LJ. and a burn would be awesome!

It's because I'm too shy to say, "Let's meet up!" :)
ext_16765: (J2 perfect fit)

[identity profile] arabella-hope.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I think we are NEVER going to recover!

Lounging around the lobby with tons of fangirls was maybe my favorite part! And, yeah. I could have talked to you forever longer. THE HUGS WERE GOOD, THO!

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
How could anything compare? I am SO TIRED, but it is worth it. for sure.

[identity profile] runedgirl.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Your con report made me just about fall off my chair laughing, cuz omg YES, srs bznss type discussions we had over all those homemade breakfast goodies and DAMN, that chicken piccata was AWESOME! (Kat's gonna whack me for using that word, but...) I totally agree, we should have just quit our jobs so we didn't have to leave the lobby lounge of fangirl awesomeness.

Seriously one of the best weekends EVER -- and I'm still MISSSSSSSINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG YOU!!!
Lyns

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
COME AND LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO. It's a good plan. I'm sure of it. and that chicken WAS awesome. the word is fully justified. *nods*

[identity profile] balefully.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
HI HI HI! OMFG I MISS YOU ALREADY! asodgnsdgoin Why are you not perpetually seated across from my couch to amuse/entertain/educate/validate me. D:

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I MISS YOU TOO! definitely we need adjacent couches and constant fangirling. VERY IMPORTANT.

[identity profile] missyjack.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Sunday and Monday at teh Con as everyone is very hungover mellow and there are conversations and stuff. I am still floating on my post con high, and of course i still have reall life fangirls here in NY to fangirl.

I'll be putting in for leave for next October as soon as I get back to work!

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I am so jealous of your NY fangirls! I am very definitely feeling the whole why does no one understand meeeeee thing *sigh*

but I am still on a high too. And met a girl today who plays some nerdy online pirate AU thing, so neither of us 'got' the other one's thing, but we got the online dork-ness. so that was something :)

I MISS YOU AND WANT IT TO BE OCTOBER AGAIN NOW PLZ.

[identity profile] missyjack.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
we got the online dork-ness yes I think i need to hunt out geeky girls back home with an obsession even if its not SPN, coz they understand and I love their passion.

Before this Wincon I really didnt think I'd come in 09. Now? I'll be there even if i have to sell a kidney to buy a plane ticket.,

[identity profile] elusive-life-77.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Man reading all these con reports have me dying inside! If next year's really is in Denver I will be there with bells on!!!

So did everybody have on name tags with their lj names on them or what?

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
We all had nametags with our lj names, and then some of us put our RL names on them too and some didn't.

You definitely need to go to Denver next year. as far as I understand, location is firm, it's just not totally certain what weekend.

[identity profile] lazy-daze.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
LSHGLHMAN I AM SO BEHIND ON CON REPORTS AND SUCH. WHERE HAS MY HOLIDAY GONE. :((( I MISS YOU OMG OMG IT WAS SO SO AWESOME TO MEET AND CHAT AND SCREAM ABOUT OTPS AND SO ON WITH YOU! <333333333333333333333 ldglg your report is all detailed, ahaha, I'm like UM. I SCREAMED ABOUT JARED A BUNCH? It is all blurring together in a fangirlish goo in my mind, or maybe that's my head cold URGH.

I cannot believe I am considering spending that much money on coming again next year. sldhg! WANT. :(

*kiss*

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHA that report took me THREE HOURS TO DO. When I started it was all, um, and then something else happened, but as I went on typing I remembered more and filled it in. plus I had the schedule, and other people's con reports... it was more a research project than a coherent narrative though!

feel better, bb. OMG I WANT YOU TO LIVE CLOSER! (I wish I still lived in Brighton)

*smooches*

[identity profile] alice-pike.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, I'm so upset I couldn't go. And it was on the east coast, and everything. :( It sounds like it was awesome. Although, at the same time, I don't know that many people in the fandom, so maybe it's for the best that I'll have to wait and get to meet more people online first?

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
It was AMAZING. I missed last years, which was on my coast, and was very sad, but at the time I hardly knew anyone, so I'm actually kind of glad I ended up waiting. I knew WAY more people and so was never short of someone to pester talk to. Not that it's hard to meet people either.

[identity profile] lima-sierra.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The con sounds INSANE! So glad you had a fab time. I'm a little envious. My form is coming on slowly, like an elaborate written form of water torture. I hate my life. Well, a bit. *g*

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
It was insane. INSANELY AWESOME.

I ended up volunteering for 8 instead of 3 hours today, but will send your form back shortly.

xx

Oh yay I FOUND YOU! I'm so wretched with names, but thanks to everyone else's con reports, I tracked you down- hurrah! I had such a great time with you on Saturday, and now I'm tickled by the knowledge that you'd just listened to the podfic. ;)

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I am glad you found me. I ended up totally losing track of who I found and friended and who I missed, and I totally thought I had added you already! saturday was totally awesome (especially once I got over the slight weird of having spent MANY hours in the last six months listening to you read me porn, and then there you were, all real and stuff *g*) and I want to go back and do it all over again!

*spins you*

[identity profile] girlguidejones.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Hey you! Next year I must find a sexass outfit to wear so I can get a wonderful ego-boost again! You are too sweet!

If only there was more time, y/y?

JEALOUS.

And completely desperate to be able to afford to go to the Aussie Con in April now.
