I'm so excited that she and Portia are marrying. Ellen will become Australia's favourite daughter-in-law!

I always feel that I have opinions about this matter that aren't strong enough. My aunt lives with her girlfriend. For many, many years. And I think their relationship is as strong as that between the strongest of my aunts and uncles marriages. And I think of my aunt's girlfriend as another aunt. In all but the legal sense, she is family.
I remember hearing in the past that they wouldn't get married if they were legally able to. But that was years ago. Maybe they have changed their mind. But you need that first-hand acknowledgement/story to feel that marriage MUST be allowed for all. Hence, even though I always felt they should have the choice, Ellen made me feel as thought that MUST have the choice.
And I kinda hope that one day... Maybe after my Nanna passes away (it was always the elephant in the room - she always just IGNORED the fact that her youngest daughter is gay), they might have a civic union. And if they ever have that choice to get married in Australia, and choose to do so, I'll be there, crying my tears at the love being declared to the world. :)

Every time I hear someone say, "But you have civil unions," or "But marriage is for one man and one woman," it makes me feel like I'm being slapped across the face and told I'm sub-human. It's disgusting. So I'm so glad Ellen did this.
And thank you for sharing your family story with me *hugs and smishes*

People who have views and political stances on things that don't directly effect them make me sick. Pandering to people's prejudices.
Personally, I love gays. The way I see it (do tell me if you think I've stereo-typed), you find more homosexuals are happier to go childless. Those you desperately wish to have children are more likely to have the equal love as heterosexual couples who have chosen to begin a family. Hence? Homosexuals are BETTER for families/the environment! From family and friends I've known, homosexuals seem to have a greater, more rounded friends network! Definitely healthier than the closed-minded, small circles some people live in!
Hence? Homosexuals are not sub-human. In my mind, they're super-human! ... 'n' stuff.
