I need to start by saying that Robert Downey Jr stole a piece of my heart way back in 1987 when I saw Less Than Zero for the first time. He did nothing whatsoever to attempt to give it back today. He was absolutely AMAZING. *fangirls all the hell over that man*
I've never really been a Jon Favreau fan. He did a great job with this. Apart from Pepper Potts. I'm not sure how much of my irk with her was down to the direction, how much to the character in the comics, as I've never even heard of them before today, much less read any, but she turned simpering at the drop of a hat, and I a)didn't buy it and b)didn't much like it. I kind of felt like Gweneth felt similarly, which may have exacerbated the not buying thing. Also? I'm pretty sure it's flat-out impossible to run on catwalk grating with stiletto heels on without snapping either a heel or an ankle. Just as a point of interest.
Terrence Howard, boy, that man brings a little shine to everything he does. No change here. Jeff Bridges was Jeff. Who else?
Back to Robert though. He sold MIT geek and playboy with equal fervor, he was beautiful and sexy and so funny. His interactions with his robots were spot on. A few times I would have laughed loud and long, but I was sandwiched between a man who ate six (yes, SIX) hotdogs during the course of the movie, and two UBER-serious comics geeks who got cross when the man in front laughed, and so I was kind of put off public displays of mirth. I really wanted to fold him up and put him in my pocket though.
And the special effects were kick-ass.
In short, if you had any thoughts at all that you might like this film, I highly recommend it.

I'M JUST HERE TO FANGIRL ROBERT WITH YOU! Oh, god, ME TOO! SO MUCH! I didn't see Less than Zero until this year (mostly because I was too young when it came out, and then there were just too many similarities to those types of things in my life at too many different times, ANYWAYS), so I fell for Mr. Downey, Jr, when he was in that movie with Rodney Dangerfield and the dude (Lloyd?) from "Christine"... OMG I CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME.
I fell in love with him ALL OVER AGAIN this week - cuz he was on Regis and Kelly, and OMG, BABY, HE WAS SO FREAKING CHARMING.
Hold on, I'm going to youtube to see if it's up there. BRB.
IT'S NOWHERE????
Brb, going to check MORE.
After 20 minutes, I've come to the conclusion that people suck. BUT ROBERT IS LOVELY.

but yes. he is just... He's amazing. and I feel like he puts all of himself into whatever roles he plays. He uses the shit he's gone through and done in his life to make his acting better. He was awesome in Kiss Kiss and awesome in this, and he's just awesome always.

The special effects were tremendous - and I loved, loved, loved all of Stark's workshop robots.
Pepper... well, what can I say. At least she wasn't in a lot of the movie, so I got pissed off a lot less than I could have. I am not too Iron Man comic savvy, so I don't know how much of it was true to canon (I am much more familiar with DC verse, as opposed to Marvel), and how much of it was "simper more! this is a romantic subplot, people!".

I actually didn't recognize Jeff at first, with his bald head and his scary wide beard. By the time I figured out who he was, I was all seeing him in this. He cracked me up actually.
The robots were total love. the extinguisher one made me want to weep with glee. I want to see it again so badly. I might have to do that. And stay right to the end of the credits this time. I can't believe I didn't. Given I ALWAYS do, except when there have been too many hotdogs consumed by the man next to me, making me feel ill.

RDJ managed to steal my heart in Two Girls and A Guy even though I'd just broken up with a boyfriend who looked just like him because he was cheating on me. That's how wonderful Robert Downey Jr. is.

I'm crazy in love with Downey, I always have been. Even in Weird Science when he plays an absolute jerk.
I loved the film, it was brilliant.
