It looks like Heath Ledger has died. Was up on TMZ and now it's popped up on CNN.com and in the New York Times too.

I feel really heartbroken about this. He is one of my Actor Greats, and is in so many of my favorite films.

the articles are all a mess at the moment, totally contradicting themselves, often in the same sentence, but it's all over the news.

I just... He's one of the actors I feel extremely attached to, and I can't believe this.

I kinda know what you mean. It seems to make no sense, 'cos over here he wasn't always in the news for leading the hollywood party lifestyle or anything. It's just so unexpected, which makes it more shocking and upsetting.

I was just watching RTD's Casanova the other night and wondering why the hell I don't have the Heath one, and getting all confused cos Laura Fraser is in Knight's tale and the RTD Casanova and...

I heard about it from my kids. They heard it on the radio. "Some guy named Keith from Brokeback Mountain died." As soon as I heard the age, that was it.

I'm actually *crying* about this. He was one of my favorites. I've got "Roar" and "Sweat" (Aussie series he was in) sitting on my shelf and I just think of how young he was and so full of promise.

And shit! I teach a stupid class on fame and celebrity and I so don't want *this* to be a "teachable moment" tomorrow morning.

I turned on the TV this morning and saw that. And I cried. And I thought of poor Matilda, who will grow up without her Daddy. And I didn't even hear that he and Michelle Williams had split. And I can't help but think of how tragic their lives will be. Matilda's paternal family in Australia... Maternal in America.

I can't believe he's died.

God...it's just so insanely wrong that he has gone. When he didn't get the Oscar for BBM, I was furious, but part of me thought that he was so brilliant, he would get one for another amazing piece of acting, as he was so young and had a whole lifetime of roles ahead of him.

(Not taking away anything from the even more horrible tragedy that his wee daughter has lost a loving and devoted dad.)
