I've been trying to find a larger and more readable font as though I love palatino, it seems too small in its LJ incarnation. at least on Nebula. So now I'm trying Lucida. What do people think. Is it worse? Better? You couldn't care less?

eta thank you everyone who weighed in, and [livejournal.com profile] rap_chan [livejournal.com profile] notharry and [livejournal.com profile] fallen_arazil who between them made me able to have Palatino in a readable size.

Yay!

Works okay for me. My personal favorite default is Verdana. Tahoma also works quite nicely.

I am more a fan of the serif styles than the sans serifs like Verdana, though that used to be my favourite. Ideally I could just set the font-size larger, but I can't see a way to do that.

I set it larger when I read your LJ (and most other people's too.) Easy with Firefox. Of course, you can't trigger your readers' browser settings...

If you go into your custom CSS and find the body section, you can change the size pretty easily.

On a new line after "body" and after the opening curly bracket and anywhere before before the ending curly bracket, type font-size:larger; --don't forget the semicolon. This should adjust the font-size relative to the font size people have set as their preferred....

I am one of those people who doesn't know what custom CSS means. I mean, I have a vague idea, but I am not sure quite what you mean. I am an intelligent person however, and will give it a try.

That's one of the easier things to change, font size. I assume you have custom CSS because you're not using one of the default layouts, so at least you know that much, right? ^.~

I am using the default Nebula. I totally can't figure out how to get CSS to even let me in.

Check this picture out (http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h33/dropsofviolet/css_help.png). I love to help people with CSS, and this is one of the simplest things to do. Just remember to hit save-- that's the only part of the screen that you need that I didn't bother to capture.

Oh, and I tested it, so if this really doesn't work, your coding is ODD.

It worked. Thank you so much. *g*

Now it is SO much bigger. is there a way to make it less larger? so that it is somewhere between default and this? If not, I shall have to decide which is better.

You can actually set the exact pixel size--instead of 'larger', put '11px' and go up from there until you find a size that works for you, would be my suggestion. *likes small fonts*

np! *sparkles*

If you have any other problems, I can possibly help ya--my layout is based on a lj wizard, but I peeled out all the css and do it custom so I can have more freedom with it, so I'm pretty good at figuring out how to do things.

*is proud of herself for recently changing all her little -->[livejournal.com profile] fallen_arazil people and community things into custom pics using css. ^_^*

you should be proud. it's very impressive. I was amazed when I managed to get the pictures on my background, and that is part of custom.

I do wish it would let me fuck with colours again. that part seems to be broken.

oh, don't suppose you know how to make the comments not indent so much?

posted by [identity profile] fallen-arazil.livejournal.com at 10:22pm on 14/03/2007
... from what I can see of the code, it appears to be some sort of livejournal default, I can't seem to find that specific indent defined in the basic css.

-_- I have failed you! I am unworthy! *seppuku*

I am very glad to hear it. I would prefer you not do any falling on your sword business. I have heard people who do all their own coding bitching about the indents, so I think it's hardwired into LJ somehow, but I thought I would ask in case I was wrong.

actually, after some further searching, I have discovered that you can change the comment indent, but not through basic css--you have to do some dense coding through the lj layers function, which kinda makes my eyes cross, and I'm sure you prolly don't want to fiddle with. =P

*shakes fist at lj*

~Djinn

I didn't mean it, lj. I love you. Let's never fight again!

It works fine, but it's less pretty. Wasn't there a way to have Palatino in a bigger size?

as far as I've been able to tell on Nebula it's all fixed font sizes. The other styles I've tried have been the same, plus I can't do the backgrounds the way I want either. So generally I like Nebula. But being able to change the font sizes would definately make me happy.

There's no way to tinker with the code by hand? FONT SIZE can't be terribly difficult to fix?

(Look who's talking, I have kept to the old S1 generic style, because I find it more legible...)

Hehe, I had to go to your journal to see the difference. Since I can't see it regardless, makes no difference to me. Even if I'm a fan of the san serif fonts myself. ^^

Ah, but if you read things behind a cut, it would go to my page, and you'd have to read the fic or whatever in the new font. *g*
