Somehow my LJ has become a bit of a cooking blog

I am having the BEST TIME cooking in my new place. I spent the morning building furniture and suddenly realized I was super hungry about 3 o'clock, and was about to reach for the frozen chicken taquitos when I thought, nope. you have time to cook. grab a handful of nuts and make yourself something. So I did. I didn't end up making fennel last night with the potato/apple/sausage saute I cooked for supper, so I decided I would do that today. I was in the mood for pasta, so I paired it with lemon-pepper papparadelle tossed with Italian (chicken) sausage and baby spinach. So so so good.

The fennel I just washed and cut into six wedges (I should have done eight, I think), brushed with a little olive oil, grated fresh ginger (about an inch long) over it, and finished with about 1/3 cup orange juice. I stirred the ginger into the OJ with a silicone pastry brush and brushed some over the fennel and then put it in the oven on 375. The internet said it would take about 30 minutes to cook, 15 on a side, but it took more like 45. I added a quarter cup of water when I turned it, and then again when I realized it needed more time.

The pasta I just drained and then tossed into the frying pan I'd cooked the sausage in with a knob of (not)butter over a low heat. Once it was well coated, I threw in a handful of spinach and tossed it again until the spinach wilted. So easy. So so so tasty.

I've been listening to the Radio 1 Breakfast show during my mornings. Their streaming is excellent, and Nick Grimshaw is delightful. He reminds me of everything wonderful about my years in England, and he's funny, and today he talked to Emma Watson who is just an absolute DELIGHT, and I am also enjoying hearing what's happening in the world of pop music.

Now I'm off to break down boxes. ♥

fennel...that sounded delish. It's one of those foods that I always think ???? hmmm???? I think I'll try that, if all else fails I'll sub out bok choy.

I am strongly approving of this culinary turn of events - yum :).

I think you're the only person I've seen who doesn't think that the departure of Chris Moyles (unpleasant oik that he is) is the end of the universe, this is refreshing :)

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2012-09-27 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha 1D fandom is filled with ppl suddenly all about the bbc breakfast show. Though tbf, a large percentage probably don't know the ~delights they are missing :D

Ugh. He is such an oik. Nick is a breath of fresh, queer air :D

[identity profile] brynnmck.livejournal.com 2012-09-27 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love that! And would be very happy to return the favor! (Though I also kind of don't have chairs. We mostly eat in front of the TV like civilized people. Hee.)

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2012-09-27 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
the pasta is so great. fennel smells really strong when it's raw, but cooking it takes out a lot of the strength, so it's lovely rather than WOAH.

[identity profile] rivers-bend.livejournal.com 2012-09-27 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like it. I am definitely not a fan of bok choy, but I bet that it would go well with the orange and ginger :)
