It's that time of year again, where I look back on my twelve months of writing. I like to make a guess as to how much its going to have been, but I honestly have no clue whatsoever this year. It's been kind of a weird one. The only thing I know for sure is that I completed all 31
mmom fics for the first time.

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
Looking at this list where there are months I didn't post fic at all, I feel all unproductive. But counting my big bang which I wrote this year but cannot post until next because I got given a January posting date, I wrote over 191,000 words of posted fic. Last year I got lazy and didn't post word counts on my roundup, and I can't be bothered to go back through all the posts right now, but I don't think it was more than that. So I just wrote even more longer things than last year.
Where did you publish/archive your stories?
AO3 and here on Live Journal
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2011?
Frank/Gerard, fic over 30k words, bandom. I did actually start trying to write a frank/gerard/adam/tommy story last December after meeting
bexless and talking to her about her amazing Adam/Frank/Gerard fic, but I could never find the characters. Then, somehow, I managed to fall headfirst down the bandom rabbit hole that I'd been merely dipping my toe into for years. I didn't end up being able to finish the fic set in her verse where Adam fucked Frank and Gerard before he was famous, but wrote one in
blue_soaring's high school AU verse instead. And then I somehow wrote 25k words of my own Frank/Gerard HS AU verse in like a week, and kept going.
What’s your favourite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
I was actually confused for a moment when I got to this question, because I copy/pasted the meme from
littlemousling, and her answer is pretty much word-for-word what I would say. Except I don't really use ykwim, so that clued me in. But yeah. What she said:
I go back and forth on this SO MUCH. I have an absolute addiction to rereading my own fic (because it fits my interests PERFECTLY, ykwim?), so sometimes I wear my favourites out with rereads.
Like
littlemousling, though, I too have a having said that section. I'd venture that We're all Okay and my yet-to-be-posted big bang are my top contenders. The former just delights the hell out of me, even though it is THE MOST ridiculous, and the latter took my heart and soul and ten months, and I've worked harder on it than anything I've ever written, and it owns me.
Okay, NOW your most popular story.
That Flavor You Like has both the most hits and the most kudos on AO3, but Tommy Joe's... Flu has more comments on LJ, and is the one I most get people telling me how much they love it or how often they re-read it on twitter. I don't know how much of that is people feeling more comfortable publicly admitting to loving domestic kinks like shaving and hurt/comfort rather than figging and face slapping, and how much is that the list of tags on AO3 for Flavor is about a mile long, so there's a high probability that people not even in Adam fandom try it because they're after one of the kinks in it, and how much is something I haven't thought of, but there you go.
Story most underappreciated by the universe?
I have all the appreciation in the WORLD for how my fic is appreciated, but definitely fewer people clicked on Fuck Mr. Brightside and The Taping of Tommy Joe than my other stuff in my main fandom. Unsurprisingly, given the lack of Adam. Taping is just a bit of silly nonsense, and I am quite happy if no one ever looks at it, and I really liked Mr. Brightside and it made
blue_soaring happy, so it accomplished its goal even with a relatively small readership.
I would have liked more people to read Everybody's Looking for Something, but it's a Suckerpunch fandom fic, so I don't actually have any expectations of that. It seemed well received in the Suckerpunch fandom, though, and it came out exactly how I wanted it to, tonally, even though it isn't at all in my usual style, so I am not sure I can really say it was underappreciated by the universe. Just by the people in my usual m/m slash audience ;P
Story that could have been better?
Definitely several of my
mmom fics could be better, because most of them I wrote, edited, and posted in a single day, often while I was also working, or touring Vancouver, or whatever.
Sexiest story?
I ... wow. Not sure how to answer this. That Flavor You Like is probably the winner for most sex/wordcount, since it's pretty much a string of kinky sex scenes threaded together with the barest domestic scene setting, but is it the sexiest? I'm a pretty big fan of the figging scene. But almost everything I write is explicit, and I write what I like for the most part, so.
Most fun story?
We're all Okay makes me laugh SO FUCKING MUCH. I want to roll around giggling with it clutched to my chest. I have not written so much so fast in YEARS, and I absolutely ADORED it. It's maybe as close as I will ever get to writing madcap caper fic (even though it's not that close at all), and I just had a BLAST.
Story with single sweetest moment?
Oh my lord, dentists around the globe should pay me to keep writing. I am all about the sweet. Though maybe Adam letting Tommy sleep on him in ...Flu, even though he had nothing to do but hold him, not even look at his phone.
The story that made you cry?
I cried multiple times writing my big bang. And thinking about my big bang. A lot of the stuff that makes me cry happens off screen, and the reader doesn't even necessarily know about it, but it's part of who makes Tommy who he is, and it touches me deeply.
Hardest story to write?
My big bang, hands down. I sweat blood over that fic. I wrote it all out of order, I had to fill in and cut and figure out motivations and all kinds of things I've generally avoided by writing 3k word PWPs. I got out my books about writing to help me figure out emotional beats, and pacing and character arcs, and I wrote and re-wrote, and re-wrote some more. It was also the most rewarding to write, though, so there's that :)
Easiest story to write?
Probably the first 4/5ths of We're all Okay. I found the end a little bit harder going, but most of it FLEW off my fingertips.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story.
All up in his Shit. It's not really that wrong, even, but I never thought I'd write a fic that tried to find something in scat I thought was appealing. so, yay, intimacy? When half your wheelhouse is explicit underage gay incest fic and you're addicted to schmoop, where do you go for "wrong"?
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters
I definitely feel differently about Frank and Gerard now that I've written We're all Okay, but that version of them is a fusion of fanon and their INOK video personas, so I am still not sure that should count.
Most overdue story?
I started a college AU/canon fusion Chris Colfer/Darren Criss story for
miss_begonia last spring that I have never managed to finish, but I don't tend to do many things with deadlines, and when I do, I've finished them on time.
Most unintentionally telling story.
All of them? I'm not sure the contents of my id are particularly secret.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
I really want to complete
mmom again. I am determined to get Brendon and/or Spencer to talk to me. I want to write more femslash.
